The episode begins with footage from the end of the previous episode, as a bit of a reminder of last week. We then follow the girls as they find a hidden chamber beneath the lighthouse that Haruno has the key to. This chamber was where Haruno frequently hung out with her grandfather back when he was the keeper of the lighthouse. After learning that Yu was staying in the lighthouse, Haruno wanted to give this area to Yu, so that way she could improve her living conditions.
The three girls also plan a day out together to go shopping for materials for their bottle rocket. They manage to find a good number of the materials they need pretty easily, with their only struggle relating to finding bottles. While an employee had given them permission to look through the recycling and take what bottles they needed, they couldn’t find any that were the right size. After running into another girl, however, the girl allows Umika and her friends to take some of her bottles. While she isn’t part of the main friend group, I have the feeling that this girl could end up becoming important in a future storyline, especially since this girl appears in a scene of the opening alongside two other girls.
Having done everything they needed to do, the friend group decided to have some fun together by heading to an amusement park, with the most notable activities including getting bubble tea and taking pictures in a picture booth. They end up doing the photo booth three times (one being a photo booth that’s there for spring only), and while heading back, Umika spots a poster that gives her an idea for a design for the bottle rocket they are going to launch.
Matataki, on the other hand, is putting more effort than she expected into the creation of her bottle rocket, especially since she doesn’t really care all that much about it. On the day of the competition, Yu tries her best to hype up the duel by asking Umika and Matataki questions, with Haruno joining in as well. After agreeing upon the rules, the bottle rockets get launched. While the first round goes well for Umika and her friends at first, Matataki manages to beat them in that round using her own water rocket. During the second round, Umika and her friends got farther, but Matataki chose to use a model rocket with a plastic bottle around it since the rules didn’t state what kind of ignition had to be used. This ends up causing Umika and her friends to lose, but Umika finally says what she wants to say to Matataki face to face.
Matataki also begins attending school again, but it’s just so that she won’t get flunked. She also decides to hang out with Umika and her friends until she doesn’t have to attend school anymore, much to the delight of Umika.
There is a short after the ending where Yu tries foreheadpathy on Haruno. It was fun to watch this little skit unfold, even if it was more of a silly concept.
Starting with episode 2, there’s been a scene added after the part that names the next episode that gives safety tips for launching bottle rockets. This episode also includes safety tips for launching model rockets, due to Matataki’s use of one in this episode.
This episode was very fun to watch and see how the story progressed. The ending of this episode was sweet, and now we have the main friend group together! I’m very interested in seeing what shenanigans these girls end up getting into with their rockets in the future. The name of next week’s episode also has me intrigued as to what’s in store. Either way, I think I’m going to enjoy next week’s episode just as I’ve enjoyed the series so far.
