The episode begins with Umika thinking back on the club leader from the previous episode during class and gets snapped out of it by the teacher yelling at her. Later that day, we found out that there was a club president meeting that day, and the leaders of hobby groups had to attend as well. Haruno offers help for Umika, with Umika showcasing a statement. Matataki reads over the statement, and after witnessing some of Umika’s word choice, decides that she has to rewrite it. Yu and Haruno also help out a bit.
At the meeting, Umika doesn’t know what to do, and after noticing one of the other leaders taking notes, Umika decides to try and follow suit. Yu looked in on this, and reported to Haruno and Matataki that Umika…was repeatedly writing down the date. Makes perfect sense for Umika. When the meeting is over, Umika returns to the regular classroom, and she seemed a bit more confident than usual. While at the actual meeting she stumbled over her words, she did see Matataki’s message and declared victory at the model rocket championship that summer.
Of course, there’s one tiny issue. To participate in the championship, all the members of the team have to have model rocket licenses. While Matataki already has a class 3 license and an educational instructor license, the other 3 girls do not have any class of license. Since Matataki has an education instructor license, she can use a fixed curriculum to teach others and help them get class 4 licenses. The other 3 do eventually get their licenses, and Umika, Yu, and Haruno decide to plan an activity to hang out with Matataki.
The group heads to an all-you-can-eat cake place, where we see that Matataki has quite the sweet tooth. Umika, Yu, and Haruno also got Matataki a model kit as a gift. The four do a photo sticker to end the hang out. The next day, Matataki says that she wants to be the one to be in charge of designing and making the rocket. When Umika objects, Matataki points out how much time was left before the championship, and that they’d need a rocket that they know can win. Umika feels conflicted, but Yu runs into her during a walk home. The two end up heading to the arcade, where Yu plays a crane game (which she eventually wins with help from Umika). When Umika talks to Yu on their way back from the arcade, Yu points out that she isn’t afraid to walk forward due to all the light that Umika has provided.
After the credits, we see a short where Umika arrives on an alien planet and is greeted by aliens (including Yu). Yu gives a tour of the planet, and even shows Umika a rocket. Haruno asks Umika if she wants to ride it, which Umika says she wants to, but a shadowy figure asks them questions that overwhelm Umika and Yu. As it turns out, this was just a dream that Yu had.
This episode was a great way to showcase the group’s dynamic. This episode also helps to move the plot forward, and it seems to get more on the serious side, once you take a look at some of the dialogue (like Matataki’s internal thoughts during the photo sticker booth or Yu’s speech to Umika at the end of the episode). I can’t wait to see where the story of this series ends up going, because it has been a very entertaining ride so far!
