The episode begins with recapping a scene from the previous episode, albeit reanimated from a different angle. After Umika runs off, we see her return to her house and enter the bathroom, where she asks her sister to watch her stick an igniter into some gunpowder…but the bathroom probably isn’t the best place to do that. Back at school, the group had launched a prototype rocket, and the launch went so badly that Matataki is cracking eggs (that should be used as a passenger in the rocket) into a bowl.
Later, Haruno and Matataki are in the home ec kitchen, where they were told to use the eggs that Matataki cracked. While talking with Matataki, Haruno slips an apron on Matataki. Matataki takes the apron off, and asks why they couldn’t have Yu drink the eggs. Umika was busy talking with the head of grade about the championship, and Yu was taking remedial lessons. Haruno decided to tell Matataki that she plans on making chiffon cakes. When making the meringue, Haruno and Matataki begin playing Rock Paper Scissors to determine who would whip as hard as they could for a minute. Matataki manages to win 8 times in a row, with Haruno noticing that Matataki doesn’t like to lose. After a conversation, Haruno challenges Matataki to a round of Rock Paper Scissors while Matataki was holding the whisk. The two continue their conversation, and Yu sneaks out of her remedial lessons to see if the cakes were ready.
When the cakes are finished, the group and their teacher enjoy it. It is then told that the group survived their end-of-term exams, having them enter their summer vacation, with Matataki and Yu running out of the classroom the instant the bell rang. We then see the group outside the lighthouse, with Matataki telling the group that they’d meet there the next day. Matataki yells at Yu to take off her sweater since it’s hot out. Matataki even tries to take the sweater off of Yu.
This gets followed up by a montage of the group working on the rocket, which wasn’t going well. Matataki ends up snapping at Umika and Yu, and Umika running out of the room crying. Yu follows Umika and talks to her, with Umika deciding to head back inside. Matataki finds Umika’s rocket notebook, and notices all her notes. When Umika comes back into the room, Matataki puts Umika in charge of the parachute. We then go to the day of the championship, where the rocket, named Ultra High Power Dream, gets entered. Umika has a speech prepared, though her anxiety makes it a bit hard for her to say the words without stuttering. The group comes across the girl from the other school, and they have a conversation before we hear an announcement that the championship was beginning.
There is also a post-credits scene where the teacher asks if the members of the group felt confident about their end-of-term exams, the group shares how they feel…and then there are notes that appear that appear to show what was more likely to happen to them.
We’re getting to the competition! This episode was super fun, and I enjoyed seeing where the episode went. There was a moment in the episode that hit home for me, and it made me appreciate the episode a bit more. I’m curious to see where the episode next week goes. Though I am 100% confident that it will continue with the competition, since this is something that’s been built up to over the series.
