The episode begins with Umika arriving back at the classroom for the beginning of the second term. She’s about to open the door when Yu opens it to say hello to Umika. Umika gets to talk with Yu and Haruno, where we find out that Haruno checked in on Umika, and Umika had what could be considered a small texting mishap. During the conversation, the class president comes up to express how much she enjoyed watching the launch, and we get to see a video of the rocket launch. The class president then decides to borrow Haruno’s phone and show the other students the video. The other students are impressed, and Umika decides that she’s going to go talk to the teacher.
In the teacher’s office, Umika talks with the teacher. During the talk, Umika finds out that Matataki isn’t going to be attending school for some time. However, the teacher believes that Umika can understand the pain that Matataki is going through, as both of them saw the competition as more than just win or lose. After heading back to the classroom, Umika asks for a copy of the video that Haruno took after finding out that Haruno had a video of Umika’s speech. At her home, we see the reason why Umika wanted this was to try and get over what remaining pain she felt from the tournament.
The next day, Umika, Yu, and Haruno decide to go check in on Matataki. Matataki doesn’t answer, so Haruno mutters something that seems a bit out of character for her for what we know about her so far, before walking off. Yu catches up, however, and uses her foreheadpathy to see into Haruno’s mind. Through this, we get some character development for Haruno and why she has the kind of attitude that she has. We also get to see a flashback from when Haruno was a child, where she decided what kind of person she wanted to be. Present day Haruno then decides that she wants to change.
Haruno heads back to check on Matataki, and after a conversation where Haruno noticed that Matataki’s goggles are in the trash, Haruno decides to take them and give a sort of motivational speech to Matataki before leaving. After the door gets closed, we begin to hear that Matataki isn’t good at something, but that something is still unknown, as the sentence isn’t finished at the episode’s end.
This was a nice episode to give Haruno more development. And from how this episode ended, it seems like next week’s episode will develop Matataki a bit more. It did feel like Haruno was the least developed out of the girls, so getting more insight into her character is always a good thing. The title for next week’s episode seems to suggest that another rocket launch competition between Matataki and the other girls will take place. Of course, I could end up being wrong, but it’ll still be fun to see where the story ends up going!
Speaking of next week, there’s the chance that my writeup for next week could be delayed. My internet service provider plans on doing upgrades on that day, which could cause service outages that impact my ability to watch the episode and do my writeup. It’s better for me to provide this disclaimer and turn out to not need it than not include it and find out that I really should’ve added it.
