The episode begins with Juliane riding in a carriage, looking at what appears to be magazines covering Elise. It is storming outside, and the ride goes smoothly until something occurs that causes the carriage to stop and the coachman to fall. During this scene, we also see a medical book fall. Put a pin in that, we’ll come back to it later. Juliane gets out and notices that they had managed to avoid running over Elise. Elise notices the pain that the coachman is in and tries to administer some emergency treatment for a broken leg, but she doesn’t have a splint to keep the leg in place. Juliane offers her umbrella for Elise to use, which manages to work.
The two head to the residence of the House of Child, that way Daniel can rest up. During this conversation, Elise sneezes. Despite this, Elise says that she’s going to head back home, but Juliane points out the weather and says it’d be better for Elise to stay the night, especially since her brother and father are out. Juliane chooses to lend some of her clothes to Elise, and the two have some drinks, with Elise noticing the sweetness of it, and asking if Juliane added ginger. Juliane confirms this, talking about how when she caught a cold, Elise did something similar, with Juliane talking about how it builds up immunity. Elise chooses to ask if Juliane is studying medicine. After explaining her reasoning for taking up medicine, Elise came to the conclusion that Juliane was likely making this decision due to being heartbroken about the informal engagement announcement.
The next day, Juliane takes Elise’s temperature and notices that it’s a high fever, with Juliane saying that she’d get the doctor to check on Elise. After finding out that her brother is back, Juliane goes to talk with him, explaining the situation that was going on, and he appears to be more okay with it. The doctor checks on Elise, and says that Elise should get better quickly. After he left, Juliane braids Elise’s hair, with Elise commenting that she didn’t know how to braid her hair.
We see a meeting between the members of the nobles faction, where we learn that Linden’s approval rating will likely increase due to Elise’s actions, and that they want Mikhail to be the one to ascend to the throne instead. Though, a comment made by Mikhail is making me wonder if he was reincarnated in a similar fashion to Elise.
Anyways, back with Elise and Juliane, the two have tea together due to a promise that was made earlier, where Juliane shows off her skill with making sweets. During this meeting, Elise ends up staining the clothes that she was lent, making a promise to wash them and return them to Juliane. Some time later, we see Elise return home and one of her brothers and her father worried about her. Once Elise clears everything up, however, she also reveals a parting gift that she got…sweets!
According to comments that I’m reading on Crunchyroll’s simulcast of the episode, this story is supposed to take place later in the manhwa than where the anime puts it. As I have not read the source material, I cannot confirm or deny if this is true, but if it is true, then it’s an interesting change made for the anime. While this episode didn’t move too much forward in the way of the main story, it gave a chance to flesh out more of Juliane as a character and see more of how Juliane and Elise interact. It was a nice episode to try and calm things down after the events of the previous episode.
There’s only 3 more episodes left in this season, which means 3 more weeks for me to write reviews for this show. I’ve been enjoying this show, even if it’s slower in pace compared to what I’m used to. But that’s completely okay, as not every single episode has to clearly push the main story forward. But despite the name of this episode, something tells me that this is just the calm before the storm…
