Okay, this may technically be a spoiler for how I felt about this week’s episode, but I’m glad I decided to give this show one more week before deciding whether to keep going with this anime or drop it. Also, you may notice that my wording won’t be as strange now…I decided to cough up the money to get Grammarly Premium, which hopefully will help my thoughts become more accessible to understand compared to before! My mom doesn’t use Grammarly, so don’t expect my quality to match hers. Enough talk from me. Let’s get into reviewing the episode!
This episode resumes the plot that was started in the previous episode, beginning with the group having dinner… Takumi, not wanting his kids to eat just anything, provides instructions to the chefs to help improve their cooking, which makes a meal everyone can enjoy! Of course, this has the unintended consequence of everyone insisting on having Takumi cook breakfast the next day. And this is why if I get sent to another world, I’ll probably stick to their methods instead of trying to recreate modern techniques around others. My contemporary technique recreations would be for me, myself, and I. Of course, this might not accurately reflect what I would do, as it’s challenging to know what you would do until you end up in that scenario.
After breakfast, the group continues exploring the forest, though they encounter fewer monsters than expected—at least according to those who typically go on these expeditions. The mysterious gaze from the previous episode returned, and Takumi was so focused on it that he almost caused this episode to take a turn that would be much too dark for me to describe. The group then ends up fighting an Evil Viper (basically just a giant snake), where Takumi experiences issues with using his wind magic to one-shot the enemy for the first time…or, at the very least, the first time I can recall. But after a lengthy fight and the kids getting in danger, Takumi decides to try and use more advanced wind magic than he already uses. It does end up taking down the snake, but…

Yeah, I think Takumi used a bit too much power. Of course, this glorious act of deforestation also causes Takumi to narrow down where he feels the weird gazes from, and it just so happens to be a knight radiating bloodlust because he has publicly proclaimed his love for the captain…aka Vault. The gay rep is real. And in the words of the show, they have a complicated romance. And lemme say the title WASN’T lying when it said that “Taku”mi gets mad. He is pissed.
However, they all end up eating dinner together, with Vault confessing that they’d end the expedition early due to how dangerous it would be the rest of the way with the crew’s current status, which Takumi recognizes. Also, Takumi finds out he has water magic now. Why? I guess we’ll have to wait for next week to get the answer to that question.
Takumi and the kids get back safe and sound, and Takumi has a conversation with the guild master, in which the topic of Takumi’s promotion in rank is brought up. Of course, while Alan and Elena are also talked about for promotion, the guildmaster points out that it would be suspicious if the two kids so quickly became of a high rank. Of course, a compromise occurs where Takumi goes up to A rank, and the kids are moved to one rank higher than they were before. That way, Takumi can still do decent missions because the kids are his party members.
Of course, this entire ordeal had tired Takumi, so he and the kids decided to retire early at the inn. This is also where the episode ends.
This was a stronger episode, and I’m glad I decided to give this show another week to keep me hooked. As such, I can now confidently say that I will continue to follow this show during this anime season. The plot was stronger, the characters felt like they stayed in character, and the episode was enjoyable. I can’t wait to check back next week to see what happens next!
