A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring Episode 11 – “Vector Does A Good Job!”

I don’t even know what to say at this point. Honestly, I’ve entirely given up on thinking up before write up paragraphs that would make sense for this. So, spoiler alert: don’t expect one of these next week.

Takumi tells the head of the trading company that he found a sunk boat and decides to give it back without payment, which is apparently not how things are supposed to work here. However, Takumi and everyone else head to the harbor, and Takumi finally lets the boat out of his inventory. To be honest, I would’ve liked this action more if there was more urgency to get the ship out of the inventory. Takumi could’ve commented something like, “Oh, this boat is taking up a lot of space in my inventory.”, or tried to put something in his inventory only to be told it was full. That would make Takumi getting the boat out a lot more satisfying.

After returning the boat to its owner, Takumi checked out the wares and picked up this world’s version of coffee beans, as well as herbs that had yet to be discovered to be able to be used as seasoning in food and instead were only known as medical herbs. Takumi then cooks curry…and speeds up the cooling process using a time-space spell.

…okay, now I’m convinced this is a pure power fantasy put under a “familial” lens so that it could be more appealing than the isekais that involve harems. Probably should’ve been entirely convinced of it much sooner than now, but it’s too late for me to pull out of the show and not feel like I’m missing anything.

Anyway, Takumi and the kids have some of the curry, which the provincial lord and some of his employees see and then causes Takumi to make more. Why do I suspect the provincial lord will also gloat about this? One of the cooks also tries to get Takumi as a mentor, but it fails. The four kids and Takumi meet and work together to make some of the bread.

Of course, we eventually bid Bailey farewell and head out, with Takumi letting the contracted beasts out. The kids want to look for medicinal herbs, but they come across a group of bandits, which Vector defeats. Via Vector’s intimidation, Takumi and the kids learn where the bandits’ base is and then proceed to beat up those bandits, take their riches, and free their prisoners. Vector also learns telepathy after this.

I’ve been feeling very mixed about this show, and I think I’ve figured out why: since the other isekais I’ve watched are more plot-driven, I expected this show to be plot-driven instead of what appears to be a more character-driven approach. However, even in a character-driven show that has clear continuity crossing over, there has to be some direction that it plans on going. For example, typical SoL shows that have romance as the primary focus have the direction of “building up the main couple to have it make sense for them to get together.” However, this show doesn’t have a clear direction for where it wants to go. And I don’t think a single episode will change my opinion.

I’ll still watch next week’s episode just so that I can state that I finished the series (and, as a result, fall into the sunk cost fallacy), but if this series somehow gets a second season, don’t expect me to jump the gun on watching or covering it.

Also, I genuinely hope the vampire spy girlie from a few episodes ago returns. I refuse to believe they will only include her once if we see her in the opening.
