Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 17 – “Gomah”

I’m gonna waive my right to a full-on pre-review paragraph for this episode. I’m not feeling my best at the moment, and even if I was at 100%, I genuinely can’t think of anything that would be engaging to you guys. So now, it’s review time.

The episode begins with introductions being provided by Arinsu’s group, though Goku’s group doesn’t get a chance to introduce themselves, as the focus of the conversation shifts to the Dragon Balls, and how they’d need to determine which wish gets to be granted. And to determine this, Arinsu proposes to have a representative from both sides fight.

Goku elects to have himself be the representative, but in typical Vegeta fashion, he objects, and the two argue about who should represent their group. Goku still ends up being the representative, however, due to Bulma’s intervention. While Kuu goes off with Goku at first, Arinsu’s like “no, Duu’s going to be the one fighting on our behalf”. To be honest, I would’ve loved to see another scene of Kuu fighting, but I can’t exactly change the writing of an already aired episode.

At this point, Goku and Duu clash, and they appear to be evenly matched, with Goku needing to go Super Saiyan against Duu.

The fight, however, gets interrupted by the — and pardon my language, but there’s really no sugarcoating this — son of a bitch known as Gomah, having gotten powered up by the Third Evil Eye. And since Gomah wants to try out his new power, he figures the best way to do that is by getting Goku’s group to fight…which does happen, since Vegeta rushes in to fight.

But due to Gomah’s current strength, the others in Goku’s crew have to jump into action, with Arinsu even sending Duu and Kuu to help out. The fight is intense, with the folks who are fighting attacking Gomah from various directions…only to get blown away due to how powerful Gomah is.

What happens after getting blown away? I’ll leave that for next week!

Yeah, I’m positive next week’s episode will pick up directly where this one left off. We’re in a freaking fight scene, it’d be a waste to not continue from here! As for the episode, even if it felt like the majority of it was fight scenes, it was still a solid episode. It’s clear we’re in the endgame now, because we’re facing off against Gomah.

And with a confirmed end date of Feburary 28th, assuming that we continue the one episode per week streak, Dragon Ball Daima should be 20 episodes long. Honestly, I fully expect the final episode (whatever number it ends up being) to be like Episode 1 and have it be longer than a standard episode. I think it’d really work out in the episode’s favor for the finale.

Honestly, I hope these final episode do Daima justice, because it feels like one wrong move could cause the entire series to essentially fail. But Toriyama helped out a lot with this, so I’m confident that the ball won’t fumble.
