At the time that I am writing this post, I am still processing the fact that this series had (in my opinion) such a weird broadcast schedule. Maybe I’ve gotten too used to anime just airing each episode week after week, which is how anime typically air their episodes. But like I stated before, if this series ends up getting a second season, I am waiting until it has aired in its entirety before I watch and review it so that I don’t deal with skip weeks on my side. Anyway, it’s time for me to talk about the episode.
We replay the last scene from the episode, and we find out who Takao has been suspecting to be the murderer, via planting some lies to get them to come to the chairman’s office. Of course, this ends up with the suspect being taken into custody for an interrogation and things seem hunky-dory. Right?
Well…wrong. Since there’s not enough information to arrest them for the case, Takao needs to figure out how a murder could’ve occurred in the locked room. However, once the possibility that the mystery isn’t a locked room murder comes up, Takanashi points out that something in the story doesn’t line up. With what Takanashi points out, Takao puts all of the pieces together, and gathers everyone together to reveal the truth of the mystery. What I will say regarding the conclusion is that while it wasn’t what I was expecting, it made sense because it didn’t feel like there was enough in the story to draw to murder.
However, in the end, Takanashi gets fully transferred to the Department of Investigative Pathology, and now things are all hunky-dory. With that, the opening theme plays as the credits (which I cannot read as I cannot read Japanese) roll as if we had gotten to the end of the fun section of a theatrical movie’s credits section. That’s it, that’s all I feel comfortable writing about what happens in the episode without majorly spoiling it.
…yeah, note to self, leave the reviewing of mystery shows to my mother. While this was a fun little experiment for myself, I don’t think I could do this again. Thankfully, next season will have me circle back to a genre that I’m comfortable covering. I thought it’d be rather nice, especially considering that my plan is to spin off from my mom’s blog and start my own at some point. More on that when I get closer to being ready to talk publicly about that point. Either way, I don’t think I could do writeups of mystery anime, and this is just evidence of it.
Brief thoughts from me on this series? Episodes 1, 2, 8, and 9 were the best episodes of the series in my opinion. While the others were fun, I don’t think anything in the series really matches the excitement of the mystery of episodes 1 and 2. However, while nothing matched the excitement of the first two episodes, the arc in episodes 8 and 9 was probably the one that impacted me the most due to the ending. While I enjoyed the series, and I’d probably recommend it to people looking for their next watch, but I would make sure to make it clear before you go in that this series isn’t something that you can just turn off after a hard day at work or class or whatever and just calm down. It is more serious, and I definitely recommend watching episodes 8 and 9 while there isn’t anything that’s super pressing on your mind. With that, I’ll see you next season, for whatever anime I decide to cover then!
