After what happened yesterday, I had a feeling that whatever happened in Secrets of the Silent Witch would be infinitely better than whatever the hell occurred in that series. And, uh, spoiler alert: I was right. Because we didn’t suddenly veer into extremely serious subjects that require content warnings here. Yes, I had to link that review here. It’s necessary for context.
This episode does a great job at building upon what was introduced in the previous episode, and getting more of the plot in motion. Monica seems to be trying her best to get over her shyness, which yes! Go girl! Even if you’re still a blubbering mess, I love that you’re doing your best to talk to people! Go, go, go!
While there were a good number of characters introduced in this episode, I feel like the series did a good job at giving additional focus to characters that will get more important, like the person Monica is supposed to guard and the girl in Monica’s class that willing hung out with her.
…I’m blanking on their names right now, I promise I’ll try my best to look up their names and properly utilize them next time. I’m just too tired to do that right now.
Though with Monica being misunderstood on why she’s here…yikes. I was also so put off by Nero transforming into a human. Maybe that’s just a part of lore regarding witch familiars that I’m not as familiar with. Who knows.
Everything that I liked about the previous episode seems to have been properly carried over into this one, and there wasn’t anything that came to me as a bad surprise. In fact, if I ever did feel surprised, then it was because there was something I didn’t expect and wouldn’t require me to add a content warning to this post.
The flashback at the beginning also helps to explain why Monica is the way she is. She just constantly walked around with measuring tape as a child. How cute! :]
Though, with the complications thrown in due to a little misunderstanding of why she’s here, it’ll make future episodes interesting. There could also be some additional comedy drawn from it, if the cards are played right.
Though I dislike how the next title thing on Crunchyroll’s broadcast doesn’t provide subtitles for the name of the next episode. C’mon Crunchyroll, don’t hold out on me! Lemme know what the name of Episode 3 is so that I can make theories as an anime only viewer! 😦
But of the series that I’ve watched that are more chill, I’d be a lot more likely to recommend Secrets of the Silent Witch over the others at the moment due to what that show did. However, more of my chill shows are coming up, so who knows! Maybe one of them will have a second episode that I think is better than this one! Regardless, it’s guaranteed that, for me, this episode is not going into F tier if I was making this into a tier list…or the tier below F, if that exists.
I feel pretty confident that I’ll keep watching this after I’ve seen the first three episodes. I just have to hope Episode 3 doesn’t fumble the ball.
