Food for the Soul Episode 2 – “I Might Want To Cook”

Do you ever just watch a show and feel like “I wanna do what’s being talked about in this show”? That’s me with this show right now. I really wanna cook. And while watching it at the time I COULDN’T because I was on a college campus, but maybe I could try my hand at cooking now. And, like…something more complex than just instant ramen or Kraft Mac and Cheese. I don’t know if those even count as cooking. Anyway, time to cover Food for the Soul Episode 2.

After finding out that the Food Culture Club was nothing more than a front to allow Shinon and her friends to hang out on campus, Moka is (understandably) disappointed. But we finally get to see the inside of the clubroom…and it is full of shit and is dirty. So, Shinon decides that the club would clean the club room…tomorrow. Yeah, they’re procrastinators of some kind. Honestly, mood.

So, the next day, Mako is going about her regular business when Tsutuji bumps headfirst into Mako’s backpack. It doesn’t appear to really impact her, however, and the two end up going to the clubroom together. And with Shinon having gotten cleaning supplies from other clubs, the natural course of action is to clean.

The stuff gets moved out of the room, which is good. But due to the friends being fun seekers at heart, Shinon and Tsutuji end up playing baseball with the cleaning supplies and a plastic bottle cap…and getting it stuck in Kurea’s hair. While Shinon tries to get it out of Kurea’s hair without her noticing, this ultimately backfires with Kurea finding the bottle cap in her hair. I found this scene to be funny, especially with how Shinon was trying to get this done.

After the meeting, Mako is watching a video about making pilaf, and ends up having a dream/nightmare/daydream during it involving her doubting herself via another version of her initially appearing as the mascot of the channel she likes to watch. Anyone else have that kind of dream? Or is this a unique experience to Mako?

The day after that, everyone brings stuff for the club room, and things are going great…until the clerk that helped them form the club stops by to visit and lets them know that she needs evidence of club activities by tomorrow, or the club that they have will go kerput. A measure put in place to ensure that any clubs that get formed under false names, only to give students a room to laze around in, don’t thrive for long.

But since Shinon wants to keep the club, the group has to come up with some activity they can do to prove that their club is “legit”. While they have activities that seem legit written down, they end up deciding to cook, mainly due to Mako bringing up that she “might want to cook”.

So the next day, Mako and Kurea have to wait for either Shinon or Tsutuji to pick up and let them know what cooking supplies they have. But after seeing that (and the other miscellaneous stuff that they ended up getting), Mako and Kurea need to select what to cook…to which Mako brings up the pilaf from the video she was watching earlier!

Once the ingredients are in hand, stuff occurs, and the clerk stops by. She notices the dishwashing, and then goes into the classroom, where she ends up concluding that the girls are doing their activities…though tells them to use the area outside the club room since open fire in the club room equals huge no. She also points out to them that while she’s technically aware that they’re not actually having this club to do activities, she’ll let them keep it as long as they do activities every once in a while. Nice.

Anyway, the pilaf gets made, they all enjoy it, picture gets taken with the friend group, and in a group chat that was made either this episode or last episode (I forgot) the photo gets sent.

Honestly, this was a rather sweet episode. The characters are interesting, and I’m enjoying the plot so far. It appears I was KIND OF right last week with my prediction (although we still don’t have member 5 T^T), but I’m hoping we get member 5 soon. I mean, we see her in the opening, so we’ll see her within the episodes that are going to be in this anime season, at the very least. I wonder what other food we’re going to see, and how many eggs will be cracked on screen during the series.

If this were a western series, I’d probably also joke that I hope there’s a How2Basic reference…but I doubt an anime would make a reference like that. But if they do, then I’m legimately going to laugh. Yes, wasting food is BAD, but somehow that channel makes it funny. Probably because my humor is broken and I find sudden eggs funny. Anyway, I can’t wait for next episode.
