Food for the Soul Episode 3 – “My Money’s Gone!”

“Happy Easter!” I say as I get dogpiled for saying this in July. In my defense, I got the stuff that was gotten for me for EASTER on the day I’m writing this (my parents arrived at my at-the-time college dorm when I was busy watching this episode, smh), so I think I can be a bit late with my holiday celebrations. Anyway, let’s check out what’s happening in the episode today.

The episode begins with the Food Culture Research Club deciding to go on a trip, and picking where that trip would be, with everyone needing to bring along three thousand yen. At the time that I’m writing this, the equivalent for USD would be around 20 to 21 dollars. More specifically, 20.84 USD. Of course, everyone manages to scrape it together…but Shinon lost a 5,000 yen bill that she was going to use.

The logical decision to make, of course, is to go to her house and look for it. And it all begins with the crew finding a paper on the ceiling that is revealed to be a clue to help Shinon remember where she put the money. While they struggled with the first clue at first, they figure it out and get…another clue. As it turns out, Shinon made three clues that would lead to where she hid the money. These other two clues are easier…but Shinon goes to open the place that the final clue led to find out that the money isn’t there.

But according to something that Shinon recollects…she only set up the clues and never actually hid the money, with it still being in her wallet the entire time. Whoops! But, of course, that means everyone can go on the trip now! Yay! Of course, that recollection also has us learn that Shinon needs to save her money. Yes, me bringing this up is important. You’ll learn why later.

The group ends up going to a mountain area, where they go on a chair lift. With Shinon and Mako sitting together, the two pose together at the photo area…only for neither of them to buy a photo. And like…what’s the point of posing if you don’t buy it? Anyway, the girls hike and have some food. One of their food selections was dango, and the other was a yakisoba shop? I believe? I’ll probably edit this if I’m wrong, since I’m going off of my memory, and my memory isn’t the best. However, the store is significant because Mokotaro, the character that Mako likes, also visited this store…and Mako also appeared to get the order that Mokotaro got.

Anyway, some of the girls get pictures, they eat, and everything’s all hunky-dory…that is until presumably the next day, Shinon arrives and reveals that she spent too much of the money she brought while on the trip, meaning that she’s broke now. 😦

Overall, this was a very fun episode. While there were some aspects of the episode that I skipped over, they were mainly to develop the characters more, and were things that I didn’t think would have a significant impact on the plot. But on the off chance any of them do impact the plot, I’ll make sure to bring those up then, because context is vital. As of this point in the series, I’m still going to follow it, and I’d recommend it to anyone who just wants a nice show to lay back and relax to. Honestly, I love this show, and I’m excited to watch it every week. I wonder what next week is going to bring.
