Cultural Exchange with a Game Centre Girl Episode 3 – “Where Is Your Brother?”

…do I have to talk about this episode? I mean, I think y’all know what I’m going to say. It still feels like they’re gonna go the romance route, and just…I’m feeling way too iffy about this show, man. I think it’s better for me to steer away and not hit an iceberg than to keep going and find out the two end up getting together at the end. I dunno if they do, but I wouldn’t put it past them to go there.

I probably wouldn’t feel so iffy if I didn’t feel like people in this show weren’t encouraging this relationship between Lily and Renji. Like, for example, Lily’s mom being like “isn’t he a little too old for you?” instead of encouraging this behavior. But, very much unlike this show, I’m quitting the game before it’s too late.

Oh, they have Beat Saber in this. Doesn’t redeem it, though.

The main thing that I’m taking away from this episode is that the video game Beat Saber is canon in it (like, with its actual name, not a parody name), and I have no clue if that’s what I’m supposed to be taking away from this episode.

Are they hoping that people will notice that Beat Saber is in the show and thus forget the more problematic elements of the show? Or did they have permission to utilize the actual thing and figured “eh, why not”? That’s something I am not going to find out. Because finding out would involve interacting with this show more, and I don’t wanna do that.

“But Sara! You watched The Do-Over Damsel–“

The Do-Over Damsel Conquers The Dragon Emperor had scenery clearly inspired by medieval times, where age gap relationships like that were more common. Cultural Exchange with a Game Centre Girl is clearly intended to take place in the modern day.

There is no justification in the modern day as to why an age gap romance like this should be occurring. While it still doesn’t seem like Renji reciprocates these feelings, I think I feel way too iffy about this series to continue.

The one point I will give Crunchyroll is that at some point between Episode 1 premiering and now (since that’s when I noticed it) is that it seems this series dropped from All Ages to PG, which I think is a much more suitable rating for this show than All Ages.

I’m just–I’m done with my writeup. If I go on any longer, I’ll most likely sound like a broken record. Maybe things get more clarified as the series goes on, but I’m not sticking around to find out.

So, I’m sorry, but I’m not inserting coins to continue. I’ll redeem my tickets for a prize and get out.
