…wow. Where do I begin with talking about this episode? Don’t get me wrong, it left me speechless in the good way. Yeah, there’s a good way and a bad way to leave me speechless. Just know it’s better to do it in the good way compared to the bad way, as typically once I recover from the bad way, you end up with me dedicating around a quarter of a post to me ranting about some topic that wasn’t the full focus of the episode, but serious enough that it deserved the rant.
I guess the best place to start is how the episode synopsis on Crunchyroll was set up at the time of writing. I know, has absolutely nothing to do with the episode itself, but I think I still need to talk about it.

…has Crunchyroll sent their quality assurance team to another world or something? Because the previous episodes didn’t have anything this long for the episode synopsis. And, just for the purpose of comparison, here are what the episode synopses look like for the previous three episodes when you view them on the series page or the history.

Notice how these don’t use an insane amount of sentences to get the point of the episode across. Now, I’m no expert in writing synopses, so someone please tell me if I’m getting completely off base here, but a better synopsis for this episode would be “Monica investigates an irregular source of mana.” as it easily gets that point across. You could also add that the source was detected by Ryn, but I don’t think it needed much more than that for that part. If necessary, the final sentence from the original synopsis could be added on to my revised synopsis, but there’s no reason that I can see for a synopsis to be anything more than one to two sentences.
Okay, loosely related rant out of the way, I’ll talk about the actual episode now. While more on the serious side compared to the other episodes, I believe it provides some good development for everything in the story, and even manages to give Cyril some good development, and answers why in Episode 3 (and I think also Episode 2? don’t quote me on that), Monica was sensing mana coming out of Cyril. We also got an answer to a mystery from last episode, closing that mystery for good. Woo!
Honestly, I’m curious about where this series will end up going next, as while Monica still has a job to do, I don’t believe we have anymore lose ends that need to be tied up that remain from the previous episodes. But man, this episode was intense.
…I guess you could say it chilled me down to the bone? Haha, get it? …okay, that wasn’t really funny considering the context of the episode, I’m sorry.
Urgh, it’s hard to come up with words for this, so despite a good chunk of this being just me complaining about the synopsis, I’ll just leave this here and talk more about the series next week. Hopefully then, this series won’t have taken so many of my words that I won’t know what to say.
