Clevatess Episode 9 – “War Zone Hiderat”

After last episode, there was a question that I had that I had no clue how they were going to answer it, and the answer to that question was ultimately going to determine some of my thoughts on this episode. After all, it was a reasonable question to have due to what had transpired in the episode before that one, and if I didn’t get a satisfying answer to that question, I was gonna be angry. The only question was: would Clevatess provide an answer to that question this episode, and if it did, would it be satisfying enough for me?

As for that…well, I did get an answer to the question that I desperately wanted to learn the answer to in this episode. But was it satisfying? To me, at least, no. With how Clevatess ended up getting to where Alicia was in his human form, it felt more like a deus ex machina or a “I don’t know how to write myself out of this” than a reasonable explanation. That’s a shame, too, because up until now, I thought that Clevatess was doing a great job at making everything make sense. However, I suspect that this is just a one-time “I wrote myself into a hole that I can’t get out of without a deus ex machina” moment and not something that ends up sticking long term for explanations of what happens in Clevatess in the future. Maybe I’m misjudging, and there’s more of an explanation past the one we got in this episode. Who fucking knows.

Sorry, needed to get that grievance out of the way before I continued further into this post, as I had really enjoyed the storytelling of Clevatess before this point, so when it felt like they were using a cheap way of getting out of a situation, I felt like I had to say something.

However, the plot involving the war going on in Hiderat and our main characters have finally collided! Don’t know how they plan on getting to a reasonable conclusion for this part of the story with only three episodes left to go, as despite the praise that I have for this show, I genuinely feel like it’s going to end up as one of those 12 episode shows with a cliffhanger ending and no season 2 announcement in sight. I’d love to get proven wrong, but ultimately, I think the chance of this show getting a season 2 is slim to none.

To focus more on positives, though, I love T’ala Mort Anzetta as a character. She’s a princess and she can fight? Yes, I love female characters who aren’t just damsels in distress! I knew that Clevatess wouldn’t fail in this aspect due to the fact that Alicia also knows how to fight, but I honestly like T’ala more than Alicia. (Sorry Alicia. :< )

But, overall, I’m excited to see where Clevatess goes next! I guess I’ll just have to hang on tight to see! 😀
