Clevatess Episode 10 – “Margo and Drel”

Welcome back to Sara talks about the series known as Clevatess because that’s just my Wednesday activity for the blog now. Maybe at some point after this post goes up, you guys will get more content from me that’s outside of what I’ve built you guys up to expect. Or maybe that sentence is a red herring intended to keep you guys looking at my site, and thus boost the amount of views on my site. That’s for me to know and you guys to use your brains to figure out the answer…or just find out later, whichever comes first.

Anyway, this episode was a fun one. …okay, maybe “fun” is the wrong descriptor to use here, considering the content contained in it. Regardless of whether or not that’s the right descriptor, I still enjoyed this episode. Though, finally getting to see the inside of where someone without knowledge that Klen is Clevatess would think he is, just to see how Clevatess is getting around it…and even with seeing how Clevatess’s escape looks from the inside, I still think it’s a cheap cop-out that the author of the original source material did because they couldn’t figure out a way to have Clevatess escape otherwise.

Like, yes, we’ve seen Clevatess use the shadows of others to attack with his tail thingies. However, I’m failing to see how what Clevatess is doing to stay out of the place where he’s imprisoned isn’t going to eventually drag him back in. Shouldn’t there be some sort of limit as to how far Clevatess’s shadow powers allow him to go?

Now, don’t get me wrong, I still love this series. It’s just that the fact that Clevatess could seemingly get out so easily…it’s just frustrating. I thought that part of the conflict of this part of the series would be Alicia losing contact with Clevatess (with the exclusion of the dark ichor that’s flowing through her veins), and thus needing to find Clevatess and free him. So to see that’s not the direction that it seems like Clevatess is going to go in is just disheartening.

So, if Clevatess ends up in more situations where he gets captured in something that seems inescapable, with the expectations that have been put on me because of this current scenario, there’s really no room for feeling tense about what’s to come in those cases, because Clevatess can just use his powers to get out, though leave enough of himself behind to make it look like to someone who isn’t paying too much attention that he’s still in there.

The backstory, though, was something that I wasn’t expecting, and I actually enjoyed, and ultimately managed to get me to push aside that one complaint I have with the plot to make me feel like the episode was good. Though since this anime only has 12 episodes in this season, and we’re only on episode 10, I’m concerned that the series won’t end on a satisfying conclusion. And if it doesn’t end on a satisfying conclusion, there’s also still no guarantee that we’ll get a second season.

Literally all that I can hope for at this point is a satisfying conclusion to this arc once Episode 12 rolls around. Though I suspect that if that is to occur, pacing will likely roll downhill. Guess we’ve gotta wait until then to find out what’s gonna happen.
