Secrets of the Silent Witch Episode 12 – “Monica Becomes a Delinquent”

Oh boy, the episode that I was fearing. I am so happy to state that this episode didn’t go down the path that I thought it was going to go down based on the title. It really scared me there for a second.

You know what I fear, though? The length of this episode’s synopsis! Via the synopsis part of Crunchyroll’s simulcast of the episode:

Monica is summoned by Mary Harvey, one of the Seven Sages and the Starseer Witch. She asks Monica to accompany her to the “Magical Offering” that is held at the festival in Corlapton. Corlapton holds a festival that sends off the dead, and participants ring a bell in their costumes as they do so. As Monica arrives to Corlapton with Mary, she finds an unexpected person there. The second prince Felix who came incognito without a bodyguard.

You know how this could easily be shortened down? “While attending a festival in Corlapton, Monica runs into an unexpected person.” Boom. Look at me, continuing to make short synopses that could give whoever is writing these longer synopses a run for their money. I don’t get how some of the synopses that Crunchyroll has written for this series are nice and short and sweet and exactly what I expect for synopses, while others are…well, what you read above.

Hell, with my synopsis, you could possibly remove the “in Corlapton” part, and the synopsis would still make sense. Considering who she runs into in the episode (which is spoiled by the synopsis), however, I think adding that part is necessary so that people don’t think that she ran into an assassin trying to take Felix’s life at a school festival.

Anyway, to talk about the actual god damn episode instead of ranting about synopses like I’ve typically done for these writeups (and hopefully this is the final time I have to do this, both for this series and for the remainder of my aniblogging career), I’d like to talk about Mary!

If you stuck around for the post credits scene of Episode 9 (which took the place of the thing that shows the name of the next episode, due to the fact that the next episode was a recap episode, which I made a rant post about in place of my typical Silent Witch write up), then you actually got to see Mary and a taste of her character early!

Now that Mary has been properly introduced in the series, I’ve got to say that I enjoy her as a character. She seems like such a fun character, though I’m sad that (apart from the Episode 9 post credits scene) we only get to see her for one to two episodes (as episode 13 will air during the first week of the Fall 2025 season). I want a season 2 of Secrets of the Silent Witch, both because I enjoy the world and because I want to see more of Mary.

That’s it. There’s no other reasons why I want Silent Witch season 2.

I’m so glad that the “Delinquent” part of the title is more of a silly thing than Monica actually becoming a rule breaker. Now I feel kinda embarrassed about including so many “Monica, no”s when I translated this title initially. But considering what I thought would happen, I was justified at the time.

Speaking of, what’s the name of the next episode translate literally to?

“Value of Books”…again, I suspect that this will be different once the episode comes out on Crunchyroll with its actual English title, but it seems to suggest so far some kind of “street smarts vs book smarts” thing, and considering how this episode ended, that seems like a good direction to go. Then again, I could be 100% wrong, and it’s actually something completely different.

But still, just one more week of this series, before it concludes and we have to claw at looking for information about whether or not a second season is coming. Let’s hope that this set of episodes has a strong finish.
