A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace Episode 5 – “My Senpai Calls Herself My Rival”

If there’s one thing that you may be wondering while watching this show (assuming you’re someone who only follows the story through the anime), I’m sure it’s probably nothing along the lines of “someone else is gonna pop up in this house, aren’t they?”…what do you mean nobody asked me what I thought you were thinking about? Ugh, this is why we can’t have nice things…

Anyway, this episode sees Nashida, someone who Futami knows from back when she was the assistant to a mangaka, visiting Futami’s place after the magazine that Nashida’s series was being serialized in decided to cancel her series. Does this stay as just a simple visit, or does it become Nashida crashing at Futami’s place for an extended time? Well…watch the episode to find out.

This episode was a fun watch, and I found myself giving some laughs throughout the runtime of the episode. I personally enjoy Nashida as a character, just because she’s such a lovable loser.

…though I do hope she cuts back on the alcohol, even if just temporarily. Look, I know that there are some series that do the hilarious drunk character well, mainly because we get plenty of screentime of the character when they’re sober. I’d definitely like to see a lot more of how Nashida acts when she’s sober, mainly due to how long in the episode we see her be drunk.

Yeah, we did get like…one scene where Nashida is debatedly sober. I need to see at least one more scene of sober Nashida before I try and judge her as a character, mainly because how a character act when they’re drunk may not be the same as how they act when they’re sober. (Case and point: Awayuki Kokorone from VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral After Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream.)

However, I wouldn’t say that is a bad thing. After all, it just gives the character more chances to shine in different ways, and even see parts of the character’s personality that would be kept under wraps otherwise. And honestly, that just makes a character so much more fun!

This series is still enjoyable, and I wouldn’t mind tuning in to more episodes to see where the series ends up going from here. I’ve been loving seeing these guys work together in the world of manga!
