Wash It All Away Episode 1 – “You Can Count on Kinme”

Considering all of the (please pardon my language) shit that’s been happening this year because of places like the United States of America (As an American, I do not condone any of the illegal and/or immoral actions that the United States government has done, is doing, and will do in the future), you may feel like you just want to sink down within the sheets on your bed and sleep for just five more minutes. With the current state of the word, you’re going to need something to help you get out of bed in the morning. And, for me at least, I think that Wash It All Away is going to be that thing.

The series Wash It All Away follows Kinme as she runs her cleaning service, which has her interact with others (and their clothes) as she makes memories there. And, honestly, even if I’ve only seen Episode 1 so far, I think that’s going to be an accurate description of how I think each episode is going to proceed forward.

Typically, I wouldn’t show much interest in a slower and lower stakes series like this, in case my eventual boredom with the show A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring wasn’t enough evidence of that. But considering what the USA did just 3 days into 2026, having something that I don’t have to pour 99.9% of my brain power into while watching will be something nice for a change.

And, yes, while you could argue With You and the Rain was one of those shows, I liked the atmosphere it created enough to ignore the lower stakes.

I enjoy Kinme as a protagonist. She isn’t overly loud (which works perfectly for this show), and is overall just a pleasant person to be around. Like, if she was the dry cleaner for my town, I’d probably enjoy going to her place. Her fish is also fun, even if it’s just a fish.

It’s also interesting to see how a character who I initially perceived as likely to be more on the grumpy side (and probably could’ve been someone like a typical Karen) was actually the person who’s renting this place out to Kinme. Yes, I’ll admit when my view of a character was just me reading their vibes.

Though it makes me wonder if dealing with a more unpleasant customer (if I had to give my two cents, likely someone visiting from out of the country) will eventually be a plot point in the series, as I doubt that 100% of the customers that Kinme gets are this respectful.

The opening theme and the ending theme also work perfectly for the vibe that this series is going after. They’re nice and calm, and feel like songs that I’d hear in universe. As this is intended to be a more calm series, I can see why they’d go for more calm themes like the ones used in this series.

Now, I fully understand that this is the kind of series where either you’ll love it or you’ll want nothing to do with it. I doubt there’s any middle ground. But if you’re someone who enjoys slice of life shows that don’t throw in insane chaos just to try and keep viewers engaged, then I think you’ll be a fan of Wash It All Away.
