Dead Account Episode 4 – “The Worst Trio Possible”

Holy shit. Holy fucking shit?! This episode?! This freaking episode?! I just…woah, where do I even begin? I don’t even know where I COULD begin?! Um…maybe with the lore stuff first? I think that sounds reasonable.

So, first off, Sad Boy K isn’t alone. There’s another guy that’s also a ghost account that appears to be with Sad Boy K that serves as a sort of emotional retainer of sorts, just based on what was portrayed of them in this episode. I’ll bring up more about this later on in the post.

Okay, the trio mentioned in the title. We have Soji – the resident ragebaiter. Then we have Kukuru, the dude with the hammer. Additionally, we get to see Urusugawa development in this episode. She’s got a power that really makes sense for the personality she’s portrayed to have. I love her goopy powers, as it’s a good way to show that she’s someone who refuses to let go of the person they care about. Really fits the “Parasocial Pistol” title for her that I’ve seen in the opening.

Honestly, I really enjoyed getting to know more about Urusugawa in this episode, especially since that’s what caused the ending part of this episode to occur. And–no, no, Sara! Don’t go into the details of the ending part yet! There’s still more you’ve gotta talk about!

The powers! We learned an interesting tidbit of lore in this episode: if an exorcist has a power that’s usually reserved for ghost accounts, then it gets the reverse of the ghost account’s power. And our biggest example of this? Soji Enishiro, baby! Remember, he has the same power as Sad Boy K!

While Sad Boy K’s powers takes the life force of humans yet doesn’t seem to affect ghost accounts, Soji’s powers are harmless against humans but do harm to ghost accounts. Soji even decided to give his powers a new name for his powers! 😮

The way that an exorcist’s powers manifests in the cyber realm is also based on how the person who uses those powers use their phone. I think that’s a really cool way to really integrate the varieties of different people you find on social media, and I think that’s genuinely something that’s super cool in Dead Account. I can’t wait to see how other powers reflect how their users use their phones.

And also, the ending of the episode?! Kukuru and Urusugawa get fucking Sad Boy K’d?! Soji and Sad Boy K face each other?! Hello?! Cliffhanger ending?! AAH!

I had questions at the end of episode 3, and if I wasn’t interested in the series before now, I’m 100% seated on the edge of my seat now. I genuinely want to see how this goes from here. I’ll just…I’ll just keep quiet until next week.
