Wash It All Away Episode 7 – “You Should Leverage Your Assets!!”

Huge shout out to my mom for having the title of this episode noted down in her post about last week’s episode due to the preview, because this episode is one of the ones where, at the time of writing, the title isn’t something you can easily copy and paste, but instead would have to read the subtitles when the title comes up to know what the title is. Now, let’s talk about what happened in the episode.

Nairo and two of her classmates are visiting Kinme’s store to learn about how Kinme does her job, with there even being a question asked regarding how Kinme gets her supplies (talking to a salesman once per week), to which one of Nairo’s friends asks why Kinme didn’t just use the internet. It is here that we learn why Kinme prefers talking to people face to face or over the phone: she doesn’t know how to use the internet. This gets expanded upon when the salesman that Kinme talks to for supplies brings up that she could reach more people through social media.

Due to Nairo and her friends listening in, however, they get the idea to help Kinme with the social media page since they already know how to use it. Nairo takes the pictures, one of the other girls edits the images, and then I assume the third is the one that actually runs the account. It’s slow growing for the account at first, but one day, Kinme gets mailed an item that other cleaners refused to service, with Kinme deciding to clean it.

As it turns out, it was a double-edged sword. While she made a customer happy and even got a recommendation from an influencer (thus causing the social media account to blow up), Kinme’s now getting swamped with mail orders from people who are fans of that influencer. This is made to be so bittersweet when Kyu finally seems ready to have Kinme clean his schoolbag, only to turn around when he sees she’s so swamped. She does catch up to him, however, and says that she’d still be willing to clean it, and would even put it on priority.

I love the focus that this episode has on a small business going viral on social media, though I found it a bit difficult to suspend my disbelief when it was the third graders helping Kinme out. Then again, if it was the high schoolers helping out, what ultimately occurred during this episode likely would’ve been on a less entertaining scale.

Now, I’m not going to deny third graders having social media. It feels like the age of people on social media has been getting younger and younger (to the point where I think parents and/or schools need to give proper internet safety lessons), however I doubt they’d know enough about running a social media to be able to help run a social media account for a small business.

Anyway, with the title of the next episode, it seems that Kinme is either going to have to learn to put her foot down and establish the boundaries for her services, or begin asking for help in one way or form. I feel like that episode will give us more focus on Kinme being overwhelmed with the volume of cleaning requests that she’s been getting. Despite my issue with the logistics of how the conflict started, however, I still enjoyed this episode, and I can’t wait to see how Wash It All Away continues.
