Wash It All Away Episode 10 – “A Top-Class Challenge!”

I love when seeing the title for the episode I’m writing about in the episode preview at the end of the previous episode and not being sure where the episode will go. This can be both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because then I can be caught off-guard by what occurs, and a curse because I like trying to theorize what will happen in the upcoming episode. Ah well, it’s not like it’s the end of the world. I can survive not knowing what to expect in an episode.

Anyway, the episode begins with some workers removing the fallen tree from Kinme’s back porch. While the roof of the porch itself still needs repairs, Kinme’s doing what she can at the moment. Her landlady is also there, and jokes about adding the cost of repairs to Kinme’s rent. Even if Kinme herself reports her rent as being cheap. I don’t know how much Kinme makes at her shop (and even then, I don’t have the yen to USD exchange rate memorized), but I wonder if she’d even have enough to cover the repair cost getting added to the cost if it was genuinely added.

During her time outside, however, Kinme’s friend runs up because she has clothes that need to get cleaned, and Kinme figures they have to be done ASAP due to the fact that they’re sumi ink stains, with Kinme even saying that if she can’t wash them out, the cleaning will be considered free of charge. There’s a reason she says that, because it turns out she couldn’t get the stain all the way out of the skirt, and thus refuses to accept payment. Though if I recall correctly, her friend also left a shirt to wash, so if I was in Kinme’s shoes, if I could only get the stain on the shirt out but not the stain on the skirt, I’d only charge for the shirt. Maybe I’m misremembering the episode, maybe the shirt couldn’t get fully cleaned as well. I genuinely can’t tell.

And as it turns out, not only is Kinme’s friend a teacher, Nairo is one of her students! Everyone in this series is connected somehow, even if not by blood, I swear to freaking god. I don’t even know how big Atami is, so I don’t know if that’s just a consequence of size or an example of how close knit the community in this area is.

The rest of this episode focuses on Kinme having a bit of a girl’s day with the girl she met back in Episode 8 at that girl’s place, as there always has to be one person at the house…because they have two large dogs! Kinme and the girl have lunch, though the sliding glass door was left unlocked, and so the dogs got to play with the water and get all muddy, even getting a muddy paw print on Kinme’s blouse.

I don’t think that the rest of the scenes in this episode really add much, but I genuinely believe that this was a fun episode. And based on the episode title in the episode preview, it seems that Kinme is going to be interacting with another kid. Can’t wait to see where the series goes from here!
