Dead Account Episode 10 – “He’s a Freezer-type”

Yeah, spoiler warning so important, I decided that instead of using my usual style for warnings, I just do a quicker setup one because of just how far back I’m gonna have to reach when it comes to the plot for this series and how important these spoilers are that I think that having my usual warning on this post would actually do it justice due to the nature of them. Make absolutely sure that you wish to proceed in reading this post before you do so. Because holy shit, there’s a lot to talk about.

I forgot if it occurred last episode or not (and I’m too lazy to check), but we see that Kukuru has evolved his hammer…to have fire! We get more backstory for Kukuru, which basically establishes (or at the very least, seems to try and establish) that Kukuru used to be classified as a ragebaiter, and due to internalizing a belief of his father’s of him getting into a fight being the reason that his mother died, he decided to go on the exorcist path.

Anyway, Kukuru’s stronger now, and he beats up glasses guy. Soji also defeats the ragebaiter he was up against, and at first, it seems like there’s a solid team for Class 1-B…until Kukuru and the camera guy (I’M SORRY I’M BLANKING ON HIS NAME) reveal that they’re dropping out of the A-B battle due to being low on battery power.

Meaning that Class 1-B has three students remaining (Soji, Hiyori, and the music shield guy who again I’M SORRY I’M BLANKING ON THE NAME), and Class 1-A has one student remaining. Now, to be able to explain the rest of the episode, we’ve gotta back track to those spoilers I told you about.

All the way back in Episode 7, we saw a direct message conversation with Sad Boy K, where he promised to fulfill someone’s wish. During Episode 9, I believe, I mentioned that there was something that I was going to bring up this week. Well, that thing is that there’s a ghost account in the area where the A-B battle is occurring. It started weak, but from my observations, it seems that the more people get eliminated, the stronger the ghost account becomes. Again, that’s just based on my observations, so don’t quote me on that.

And now, in this episode, when some of the staff monks go to investigate, they get frozen solid and have the ice they’re in get destroyed, and I’m going to say that until proven otherwise, that means they’re dead. As it turns out, the final student in Class 1-A had made a wish to Sad Boy K for an account that will never get frozen (because the student, when they were ALIVE BECAUSE THEY BECAME A FREAKIN’ GHOST ACCOUNT, was posting pictures of himself fully undressed), and thus likely has more energy to use than the remaining members of Class 1-B combined. To make matters worse, they’ve become a high level ghost account, and they’ve made a barrier that prevents anyone from entering or leaving the area for the A-B Battle, which means that the three remaining Class 1-B students will have to use ✨the power of friendship✨ to save the day or something.

According to what I’m seeing online, this series only has two episodes remaining for this cour. This will mean either one of two things:

  1. This battle gets stretched out across the remaining two episodes. Unlikely, based on the pacing, but if that is the case, they better have an immediate follow-up with a Season 2 announcement, as I don’t think ending on the A-B battle will be a satisfying conclusion for this story.
  2. The next episode is fully dedicated to the battle. The episode afterward serves as the aftermath to the battle, and has a sort of “and the adventures continue!” hook to provide a satisfying conclusion for a first season, and give room for a second season if needed.

Overall, I just haven’t been enjoying the A-B Battle as much as the rest of the series. Maybe this is just one of several instances of my expectations not matching with what the series actually is. Maybe it really is that underwhelming. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the final two episodes to see if they get better or not.
