“Could you hold on a minute before you continue?”
SPOILER WARNING: This post contains details from Episode 4 and 5 of Dead Account that could be considered more spoiler heavy. Please watch those episodes prior to reading this post.
Jesus fucking Christ. Even with the spoiler warning, I think that’s the only reasonable way to lead into a post about this episode. I mean, what else am I supposed to say straight out of the gate? May as well explain why I’m feeling this way about the episode.
So, first, we get a face-off against Sad Boy K. It seems that Soji isn’t strong enough for his flames to have any effect on Sad Boy K, however, and this still could’ve been a moment for Soji to have gone down.
Thankfully, though, his teacher, Asaki, comes in and helps to save the day. During Episode 4, we also saw Soji’s teammates Kukuru and Urusugawa go down because of Sad Boy K’s whole thing about “looking at this specific ghost account makes you cry tears of blood” thing, but it’s nice to know that engaging with Sad Boy K does not equal instant death.
Soji manages to awaken both Kukuru and Urusugawa, which is where we get another reveleation: some exorcists use specific items that aren’t phones to convert their psychokinesis to cyberkinesis without needing to use a phone. We also got to see Asaki’s cyberkinesis in action, but…
Yeah, I find the translation decision for Crunchyroll’s subtitles here odd. While koi is the more informal term for this specific kind of carp, some people (like me! Hi!) are more used to the informal koi than referring to these as carp. And yes, while it is the translation for it, not everyone knows the koi = carp lore, as an example, I didn’t know it until now. Well, I’ve learned something new today. Does that mean I can go home?
Also, remember how attack type cyberkinesis was brought up like…an episode or so ago? This episode is where we get to see support type cyberkinesis, being done by the school nurse…though she does have some ways to do the healing that isn’t surface level that I genuinely hope utilizes anesthesia because of how they’re described.
However, the reason why Sad Boy K is after Soji is revealed in this episode: he wants to kill Soji, and turn his social media account into a ghost account. Great. Just…great. Soji better get to some training eventually, which we do see him do physical training…mainly because his phone was at so little charge that doing cyberkinesis training would’ve knocked him out.
Now do you understand why I said “Jesus fucking Christ” at the start of this post? There was a lot happening in this episode. Honestly, I think I was having a reasonable reaction to the events of the episode. I wonder what’s gonna happen next…
