Kill Blue Episode 9 – “The Impossible Aftermath of an Impossible Game”

No, WordPress, I don’t want to ask AI anything. I have written these posts completely by hand before you chose to make your stupid AI less ignorable compared to the white circle with a blue star it used to be, I’m not going to cave and feed you my writing just because now the circle is a bigger thing instead of a circle. :/

Sorry to start this post with this, but I swear that the last time I wrote a post in WordPress the think was just a circle instead of being a thing that is now a pop up thing that somewhat spills into my work area. Like, at least before I could just leave it alone in its corner. Now it’s much less ignorable. Ugh.

Okay, I should actually talk about the episode now.

This episode begins with Noren working in a ramen place during a war, where if you had forgotten (or missed) that Noren was hypnotized and is currently asleep, you’d probably be like “huh?!” and question if this kind of thing is normal for Kill Blue. Alas, it’s just a dream, as while Kill Blue can be over the top, it isn’t that over the top.

Regarding the actual fight, though, we do get to see Tenma and the zombie Rindou brother do part of their battle. It’s here where we learn that the two don’t want to fight each other, but the zombie Rindou brother is only going along with it because he doesn’t want to be like this anymore. I thought this was sweet.

Unfortunately, while Tenma and the zombie Rindou brother manage to hit things off, a poor wording decision by Ogami after coming back in to tell Tenma that the hypnosis Rindou brother (who was merely knocked out) was taken care of, which the zombie Rindou brother takes as meaning that his brother is dead, causing him to snap.

Tenma and Ogami work together to have Ogami distract the zombie Rindou brother while Tenma does a spiral kick to take down the zombie Rindou brother. Of course, this all results in Tenma finding out about the world of hitmen (after getting mad at the hypnosis Rindou brother for wearing Chisato’s clothes), and Ogami was like “wait, we can just hypnotize him to make him forget about today!”

…except it doesn’t work. I don’t know if Unicorns have hypnosis immunity or not, but my headcanon is that Tenma wanted to remember the events of the date so badly that his mind literally prevented itself from forgetting anything if his date with Chisato was one of the things he was going to forget. I don’t even know whether or not that’s how psychology actually works, and honestly I don’t care, because I think this headcanon is way to fun to be constrained by the limits of human psychology.

Anyway, remember when it was revealed that Noren was hypnotized to fall in love with the first person she saw after she woke up? That person happened to be Ogami. And Ogami does not like that. Unfortunately, before the hypnosis Rindou brother can undo the hypnosis, the police come. And it isn’t because the hypnosis Rindou brother told them to. Which means Ogami is stuck with a hypnotized Noren while he has to wait for the two brothers to transfer to his school so they can undo it. Yes, the two brothers do plan on transferring to the school. Tenma and Ogami do meet up with the actual Chisato after getting out of there, though.

Okay, so the arc isn’t fully done yet, or if it is, we’re just in the aftermath. But I fail to see how this new thread can drag us through three episodes. I haven’t even been with this version of Noren for a full episode, and I already dislike her. I can only see this plot thread being present for maybe one episode max. If it somehow persists throughout all of the remaining episodes, I’m going to cry.

It was an enjoyable episode aside from the new view we get of Noren, and I genuinely hope that I enjoy next week’s episode more.
