Please note that I’m going into this writeup with the knowledge that a second season and a special episode, as well as a recap episode, are confirmed to be coming. Based on the reporting by Anime News Network, it appears that the recap episode and the special episode are two different things, and as I’ve already expressed my dislike of recap episodes, I will not be covering the recap episode next week. Don’t worry, as there’s still going to be posts going up at this time on this day instead of posts about this series for the remainder of the Summer 2026 anime season. Tune in next week (or check the homepage of this site at minimum an hour or two after this post goes live, or just know me IRL) to find out what’ll be taking its place for the next four weeks!
Okay, dang, I just started this post and I’ll already yapping about stuff that isn’t related to the episode itself. I might just have to start into writing about the episode now so that I don’t feel like I’m wasting words here.
In the simplest way I can think of to describe this, my prediction of how this episode would play out that I made at the end of my writeup about the previous episode ended up being somewhat correct. Though we got to see Victoria acting under another mask, we don’t get to see Jeff interact with Victoria while she’s under that mask.
She ends up returning to Ashbury along with Nonna for a festival. It’s interesting to note that we establish during the episode that while Nonna wears a wig when under her current mask, she wears a hat over her natural hair at the festival. Now, I don’t have a copy of the light novel or the manga to see how it’s portrayed there, but if I do get my hands on a copy of either one, I’ll definitely look and see how this section is portrayed in there to be able to see how the source material deals with it.
Nonna’s button cover also, from what I can tell, serves as a Chekhov’s gun. In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, Chekhov’s gun follows the rule of “if you introduce something in the narrative, it must have some importance to the narrative”, and while it had the initial importance of solidifying Victoria and Nonna’s bond, it also served as the reason that Jeff is able to find Victoria here.
However, Victoria and Jeff open up about their truths to each other, Jeff decides that he’d be okay with being called Nonna’s dad, and the two head to another kingdom to continue the story once season 2 and/or the special episode comes around.
I could’ve gone into so much more detail about the contents of this episode, but I genuinely believe that this is an episode that is best experienced without knowing much of those intricate details. I’m sorry, I love this series too much to just straight up spoil too much of it! 😦
If we didn’t get a season 2 announcement after the release of this episode, then I would have been completely satisfied with where this episode left us. As we’re confirmed to get a second season, however, I can’t wait to see more of Anna (Victoria’s real name), Jeff, and Nonna again! As a reminder to everyone, I am skipping the recap episode, do not ask me to cover it unless it actually reveals something that’ll be important for what’s coming up next that we didn’t get in the series.
