Clevatess Season 2 Episode 13 – “True Hero”

It’s over. Thank god it’s finally over. Even if this anime ends up getting a season 3 in the future, I won’t be jumping on it straight away.

I’m sorry, I literally do not give a damn about this series anymore, at least in anime format due to just how much I believe that Clevatess fell off during this season. So after this post goes live, expect me to start posting to my main Tumblr account (as in not the Sara Talks Anime account) my reading of the Webtoon version of the story, just because I want to see if the issues I have with this season were present in the original, or if these issues are present even in the original Webtoon. Please note that my reading will be limited by what’s available without paying in English, mainly because I don’t really want to figure out how the bonus currency thing in Webtoon works.

…okay, fine, guess I’ll try and cover a bit of the episode. Just…don’t expect me to get extremely too into detail about the episode, as I don’t really think it’s worth my energy to do so.

This episode wraps up all the open plot threads we had in this season, with some of these I felt were better executed than others. I’ll say that while I think Clevatess and Vordin’s battle was handled well, I didn’t like how the whole Milea stuff was dealt with. While I understand what the way it was done in universe was meant to represent symbolically, it felt like I got blueballed on what it felt to me like it was building up to. Maybe I was getting the wrong idea from my watching, but I genuinely feel like everything prior to what happened was building up to a big battle between Alicia and the evil Milea.

We also find out that the spirits from ancient times, who most notably aren’t who Vordin was trying to bring back, are also racist. I am not going to elaborate on that part, just go watch the episode yourself if you want context on why I’m saying that.

And, well…let’s just say something happens with Alicia and Clevatess that prevents us from following their perspective in a potential continuation. There’s also a time skip. Because every fighting shonen series needs a time skip, apparently.

Honestly, I hope that even when the source material gets to a point where it can be adapted without needing to rush content, this series still doesn’t get a Season 3. This feels like a perfectly serviceable conclusion already, and I see no reason to have the story continue forward at this point. Plus, if I had to deal with a series that I watched as a simulcast ending on a fucking cliffhanger without a Season 2 announcement, then Clevatess fans can go through that exact same suffering that me (and the people that watched that simulcast weekly) went through.

Glad I finally get to close the chapter on this simulcast.
