Dragon Ball Daima Episode 3 – “Daima”

So, it seems like one-word titles will be the thing for this series. (Source: The first three episodes, as well as the fourth episode via the preview, all have had one-word titles) And I absolutely do not mind that at all. It’s a nice change of pace from some of the long-as-hell titles I’ve had to see this season…especially since with one show I’m following this season, the length of the titles of the first three episodes are LONGER THAN THE SERIES NAME ITSELF! And with that series, both the title of the show and the episode names are pretty long. So Dragon Ball Daima is just a blessing in that department. Enough blabbering from me. Let’s get into reviewing this episode.

The episode begins in space, the final frontier. Within Glorio’s spaceship/plane, Goku, Shin, and Glorio are going where no one has gone before. This is where we get more information about what caused Gomah to come to Earth in the first place, fittingly called Warp-sama, and about the changes regarding how Warp-sama works since Shin came to Universe 7. Shin sends a message to Kibito regarding where the nearest Warp-sama is but fails to notify Kibito that PIN numbers are now required to travel.

Also, Goku continually refers to Warp-sama as a goldfish, which was funny to me. Also, we got to see what Goku would look like with pointed ears (likely only done so that Goku COULD go through Warp-sama). And just like Young Roshi in the previous episode, I don’t want to see this again. It’s not as off-putting as Young Roshi, but pointed-ear Goku seems more like a one-off thing than something that has the potential to return.

The gang then goes through the warp thing for the Third Demon World. While this footage is reused from the first time they go through Warp-sama, this is somewhere it’s acceptable. When they arrive in the Third Demon World, we learn more about how Warp-sama works…and how only those from the First Demon World or select members of the Second Demon World can use Warp-sama.

This (rightfully) sets off bells of suspicion within Shin, where Glorio reveals that he does “this and that” in the First Demon World. Glorio, buddy…I know I’m supposed to trust you, but with how you’re acting right now, it makes me feel like you will betray the gang sooner or later. Please don’t do that.

After some flying, Glorio decides to go down to let Goku take in the air. It’s heavy due to a non-lethal gas from some volcanos, which makes things slow. However, after getting attacked by bandits and driving them back, the three return to the ship. The ship has to go slow around the volcanos; otherwise, bad things could happen to it, which is fair.

There’s also what appears to be a fart joke, which, while I didn’t find the fart joke itself funny, I found Shin’s reaction funny, which I guess is close enough to me laughing at a fart joke? Anyway, the three land in an area and head to an inn. While the innkeeper was initially going to pay what I can only assume is an absurd amount of money, but Glorio shows off his concealed weapon, causing the price to drop to something that I assume is reasonable. After getting the keys to the rooms (Glorio in one, Goku and Shin in the other), Goku comments that he’s hungry, so they go to the bar across the street.

Glorio orders, and while there, Goku experiences what I can only assume is racism because he isn’t from the Demon Realm. After fighting these guys off (which helps Goku get used to the air), Goku finishes his food (and even orders a bit more because fighting off guys most likely speeds up the digestion process), and the three go back to the inn.

In the morning, Glorio, Goku, and Shin go to get on their ship…just to find out it has been stolen, which is where the episode ends.

I wanna trust Glorio, I really do, but there are just so many alarm bells going off for me that could lead to him betraying the crew, I don’t wanna get too attached to him. However, I can tell the time and effort that went into this. The animation for the fight scenes were really good…although just like Goku, I want to know what meat is used for the hamburgers. Please tell me we learn what meat is used for the hamburgers. But now that we’re finally in the Demon Realm, the next stop is getting the ship back! Can’t wait for next week’s episode~! (the tilde was an accident, but I decided “screw it, I’m keeping it in.”)
