Connecting back to my pre-paragraph writeup from last week, do you know what ELSE I’d have two nickels for if I got a nickel for every time something specific happened? Every time there’s an anime I chose to review for the blog that had its premiere, drop the first TWO episodes instead of just one. It could’ve been worse; this series could’ve pulled a Frieren with its premiere. But let’s get down and dirty with this.
Takao proudly stated in the last episode that the creature that bit off the victim’s leg was a Tyrannosaurus rex, and the beginning of this episode confirms that this is, in fact, the case, despite how improbable it seemed at the end of the first episode. Of course, this still leaves the mystery of how the patient’s blood was…well…blue. We don’t get the answer yet, however, as Takao demands to receive information, as she was promised for helping out with a case.
The information in question is additional information about the victim and how their body was found and gotten to the hospital in the first place. While I felt something was off with the actions of one of the people involved in the discovery of the body, I couldn’t place my finger on what it was. This wasn’t enough to truly form suspicion within me, but it was just something I found odd.
But after this visit, Takao drags Takahashi to the clinic of the doctor who called in the body to emergency services and pays a little visit after hours in the back entrance. Takao confronts him about why he didn’t try to save the victim at his clinic and provides good reasoning as to why.
However, following a hunch, Takao drags everyone back to the museum and manages to get into a storage room via a back entrance, where a blue stain on the ground is discovered. After remembering one of the other things that is advertised here, we get a cool segment of Takao going through her memories relating to the case and piecing together what happened.

I’m not going to dive too much further into the mystery so that it isn’t completely spoiled, but I will say that the authorities use the tactic of arresting the suspect for one crime to give them a reason to search for evidence for the crime they actually want to charge them with.
But to celebrate catching the suspect, Takao and Takahashi decide to get stuff to celebrate…to run into Takao’s older sister back in Takao’s house, and have Takao get reprimanded. A fun little way to end this case.
The mystery here was really good. While there were little things both last episode and this episode that someone would most likely catch on to the existence of them while watching, but not realize the bigger picture until more of the pieces come into play. And, hey, it also introduced a cool-as-hell scene that I honestly really like the look of. This is one of those shows that (in my opinion) takes a scene that you think is only there to keep the show looking life like, and integrates it into the bigger mystery. While I didn’t figure it out straight away, I did suspect the suspect from the moment we got introduced to them, and I’m glad that ended up being the case.
However, due to this being the first mystery, I suspect that it was supposed to be easy for the viewer to figure out on their own. However, it seems like the series is planning to give us some mysteries that are more complex in nature, if I’m getting the right vibe from the preview for Episode (or I guess technically Karte) 3. The only way to determine whether or not this occurs is by continuing to watch the series.
While the animation currently isn’t super flashy, that’s not a bad thing. Not all anime need to be animated like a shonen show, and I’m positive that Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective would not benefit from animation like that. The characters are also fun so far, and I can’t wait to see more of them!
