Woo! I absolutely love this show, as it has genuinely has some great characters and amazing moments, and I’m so glad that it hasn’t gone into any questionable territory. While we had at least one scene in the first episode that went into what could be considered fan service territory, I don’t think I’ve spotted anything else that could be in that territory in these episodes. Either that, or I’m bad at spotting when stuff can be considered fan service.
Now, let me interrupt that to finally show you guys the style this show uses for chibis, due to how much I love it.

They’re just so smoll and adorable, and I wanna pet and/or gently hold the characters whenever I see them in this chibi style. Look at these two, they’re so precious in this style.
But, like showcased in the screenshot above, we’ve now met three of the four main characters for the group. Based on the fact that the fourth girl is with Ruri in the key art that I’m using, I suspect that she’s a high schooler that Ruri gets into mineralogy in some way. I’m okay with being proven wrong, but it’d make sense for Ruri Rocks to be about two college students and two high school students.
And if that does end up being the case, let’s hope they don’t pull a mono and seemingly forget what the pull of this series is supposed to be part way through before remembering closer to the end.
I came here to see high schoolers and college students interacting, and if we don’t get that throughout the series, then I’m going to be disappointed. Please, Ruri Rocks, don’t pull a mono.
But Imari is a fun character! Absolutely love what they bring to the table, and I honestly can’t wait to see how they develop as a character.

I think this episode also effectively shows how beautiful this series can look, with the screenshot above serving as evidence. Like, look at that. I think this is a series that I have to use visual evidence to show what I mean instead of trying to explain it since words would not do the beauty of Ruri Rocks justice. Like, other shows I can easily explain why it’s beautiful. But this one? No, you’ve gotta get the images to see what I mean.
I especially love how in the beauty in this episode comes from rocks. Well, more specifically, crystals, but since the English name utilizes the word rocks, that’s most likely what I’m going to default to in my writeups. I’d appreciate it if you don’t “erm, actually” me in the comments just because I referred to [insert random crystal/mineral here] as a rock instead of what it’s supposed to actually be called.
In fact, while writing this writeup, I went to YouTube and turned on a song that I remember listening to in my science class back when I was in the 7th grade when I was learning about the rock cycle. Though, in my defense, the chorus of that song has been stuck in my head for quite a while. I know I didn’t need to bring that up, but I figured “why not?”.
Anyway, I am 100% going to continue following this series during this anime season. Ruri has caused me to fall in love with this series, and I will keep following Ruri Rocks just to make sure Ruri does in fact rock.
