“Could you hold on a minute before you continue?”

SPOILER WARNING: This post contains details from Episode 12 of Meitantei Precure. Like, something that I think is a lot more impactful if you watch the episode prior to reading my writeup. Please watch the episode before reading my writeup.

Hooooly shit. Not just in regards to the contents of this episode, but in the contents of the preview for next week’s episode. I will not elaborate past that point for next week’s episode. You’ll have to wait until next week to hear what I have to say about Episode 13. Anyway, let’s begin.

Anna struggles to open a window, though manages to open it before Mikuru came in. And of course, the big question gets asked: is there any information about Arcana Shadow? Jett reveals that he asked the London CUREtto Detective Agency about her…and the information is going to come in a physical letter to our CUREtto Detective Agency, mainly due to the fact that it seems like this information is important. Turn of the century, everyone.

Due to this delay, however, Anna and Mikuru take it upon themselves to get information about Arcana Shadow by making a sketch of her and showing it to people in town. This…does not work. If it was that easy, we wouldn’t have this episode.

Anyway, Arcana Shadow and Goemon (two of the GOATs of the Phantom Thieves Guild)end up going to a CD shop (because Goemon asked for help from Arcana Shadow), since the next object that contains a Makoto Jewel is a wish bracelet, with Goemon believing that regardless of if the bracelet naturally falls or if it gets cut off, the feelings that are making the Makoto Jewel will vanish.

Arcana Shadow has a method to get the bracelet to come off without causing the feelings to disappear, however, which she disguises to do! I’ll keep the details of the buildup as to how she does it down low, but I will make one revelation that ends up outing her to Anna and Mikuru: when they talk to a male clerk at some point after Arcana Shadow had left, the male clerk reveals that they don’t have any female staff.

When they corner Arcana Shadow, she transforms and the battle goes on. Cure Arcana Shadow uses her attack again, and Jett (when he arrives) manages to see it and realizes that he’s seen that power be used before, thinking she was helping the Meitantei Precures out, but Cure Arcana Shadow was like “no, I wanted to figure out how Pochitan can know that the Makoto Jewels are in danger.” Thank goodness we don’t have any signs of Cure Arcana Shadow redemption yet.

Also, the entire reason that I added the spoiler warning to this post when I’ve usually shy-ed away from those warnings for this series: if Cure Arcana Shadow’s word is to be trusted, then the Japan CUREtto Detective Agency was originally hers. This seems to be the truth due to later events in the episode, but this reveal caught me off guard. We still don’t have any clue why she’s working with the Phantom Thieves’ Guild, but I feel like that revelation makes up for it. Which is now making me ask: where the hell is that damn fourth Precure?!

I’m sorry if that makes me sound impatient. I don’t know how much longer it’ll take us to get the fourth Precure, as this is the first modern Precure series that I’ve sat down to watch as a simulcast. I don’t know how much longer we’ll have to wait before we even get hints of the fourth Precure…plus I was just making a little reference with the setup, which I understand might not come across as well to some of you.

Goemon turns the wish bracelet into a Hanninda, and then another fight occurs, which of course ends in a win for Answer and Mystique. Because that’s our current status quo. Things seem like they’ll continue to follow the status quo…

…until Maestro Usonoir, the boss of the Phantom Thieves’ Guild who’s made appearances prior to this point, decides that since the appointed date is coming closer, he’s going to go out and makes his attack. This was the other part of this episode that made me have that “holy shit” reaction. In case you were wondering that. I’m genuinely excited for next week’s episode. Hopefully it ends up being as good as I’m feeling like it will be from the preview.
