“Could you hold on a minute before you continue?”
CONTENT WARNING: Spoilers that I don’t feel comfortable talking about without this warning.
Okay Nijee, move over, you’ve officially be dethroned as “my #1 Meitantei Precure hear-me-out”, because Decchi Agein? Oh yeah, he is 100% taking that spot. His age hasn’t been stated at the time of writing this post, but unless it turns out he’s been a minor this entire time (which I doubt considering the disguise he used here), I’m gonna treat him like he’s an adult. If he does get revealed to be a minor in a future episode, I will be taking this statement back in my post about that episode.
Okay, now to actually talk about the episode.
We start by seeing the man, the myth, the legend Decchi Agein himself appear in Makoto Mirai City, and he’s aware of the Precures. Okay, cool, we’ve established in the episode that he exists, so we go to the CUREtto Detective Agency, with Kurea revealing that she’s made arrangements with her shifts to allow her to have time both for work and to sleuth. #dualwielding #meitanteilife #bakerlife
Please never let me use hashtags in relation to this series ever again. Doing this feels like I am breaking the space-time continuum more than the series already suggests it is.
Anyway, during this, a man named Paul comes to the agency speaking English. And man, I have to applaud the VA’s delivery of the English lines. While there weren’t many of them, each one sounded extremely natural to me as a natural English speaker.
Paul is an exchange graduate student from London, and he received a notice from the Phantom Thieves Guild that an item he owns is going to get stolen at an oddly specific time. It also has a pattern on it that confuses our meitanteis, so they decide that the best thing to do is visit the location that the heist is supposed to occur.
During the hour of the heist, three people arrive to help with the apartment, which Anna and Mikuru suspect is because one of them is actually the thief in disguise. However, when all three seem normal, it’s…*sigh* Kurea who steps into action, recalls Luluka’s advice (and remembers that none of the three asked Paul how he got the notice), with Kurea picking up on an inconsistency between how he claims he got the notice and how his apartment is set up.
It’s revealed that Paul is actually Decchi Agein in disguise, and while he did lie about some stuff, there is one nugget of truth in his act: he is from London. Kurea tries to stop him from stealing the doll that’s being targeted, only for it to turn out that he has powers that allows him to steal it anyway.
Additionally, one of the people who was helping was actually Luluka in disguise, revealing that Decchi Agein has the power of teleportation. After teleporting to an open field and summoning the Hanninda for the episode, Anna, Mikuru, and Kurea transform. The three fight the Hanninda, but when Luluka recognizes that Eclair is there, she transforms into Arcana Shadow and goes in to fight Eclair, vocalizing to her that she wants to defeat her.
We also get to see Eclair’s solo power for the first time (literally trying my best to prevent myself from providing that rant again), and yet again, Eclair delivers the finishing blow in the episode. I’ll give a pass for next episode because the preview makes it clear we’re going to be focusing on Luluka and Kurea’s past thus meaning it’d only be natural for Eclair to be our finisher, but I genuinely hope we get more Anna and Mikuru finishers after that, because I really dislike how it feels like Eclair is eclipsing our main characters.
…damn, I think that last part was kinda fire.
Anyway, things manage to work out in the end, though we do get confirmation that Decchi Agein is in fact a member of the Phantom Thieves Guild and is pulling double duty with both the London branch and the Makoto Mirai branch.
Something I will also note is that Eclair’s Sparkle Time thing occurs in her left eye, while Decchi Agein has a monocle thing that, in some circumstances, gets a sparkle in it that’s on his right side. This could mean nothing. This could mean that Kurea’s memories of being Cure Eclair and Decchi Agein’s existence are connected. I don’t know.
But man, since I’m so disappointed that this episode was yet another run on “Let’s give Kurea spotlight despite the fact that Anna and Mikuru’s story hasn’t had much meaningful growth since Cure Eclair’s identity reveal”, I’ll provide a bonus piece of content before ending this post: my absolute crack theory that is currently eclipsing my previous belief of Mikuru being Anna’s mom.

But what if Mikuru is actually Anna’s dad, specifically prior to the egg cracking and transitioning? Of course, this theory hinges on the fact that Anna’s dad wouldn’t have talked about the fact, but just hear me out.
Currently, there has been no mention of Anna’s dad in the entire series. This could just be the “absent father” trope playing out. Additionally, I know many people would say it’s more logical for Mikuru to just be a stranger from the past, or even just a family member that Anna’s mom doesn’t like to talk about.
However, I highly doubt that we’d have two characters that have been shown to have the same hair and eye color that aren’t related somehow. And since at this point it seems like the mother card is no longer in play, one of the best ways to explain Mikuru while filling so many holes is Mikuru being Anna’s dad before transitioning.
Anna doesn’t recognize the name or face? She just never saw or heard anything about her dad’s life prior to transitioning! Anna’s father hasn’t been mentioned so far? This is a cool way to have it be so he was with her the entire time! How can she have two parents who look physically the same but have her be completely different? Recessive genes, duh! And in this theory, the fact that the location of this series is named Makoto Mirai is significant: it serves as subtle foreshadowing that Mikuru would become Makoto after transitioning!
Now, do I think that this theory is actually going to become canon? No. But this is exactly why I say it’s a crack theory: I’m taking parts that I have no clue where they’re supposed to go and trying to shove them all into the same machine without a manual to help me, plus I don’t think that the staff of this series would do something like that. But my brain latched onto this theory while I was writing and refused to let go, so if you opened this, congratulations, you’ve had my brain dump get dumped onto you. I don’t care whether you agree with my crack theory or if you have a theory that you personally agree with more, just please use respect and decorum in the comments when talking about theories.
