With You and the Rain Episode 4 – “Summer Festival”

I know I probably shouldn’t talk about episode synopses anymore considering that rant-ish thing I did yesterday regarding the synopsis of an episode. Since then, that weird line break has disappeared…but I still think it’s too long of a synopsis. Typically, synopses on Crunchyroll (like on the episode I’ll soon be writing about, for example!) are one to two sentences long, so the fact that there’s an episode synopsis for a series that previously followed that pattern now has a four sentence synopsis is just concerning to me. You can refer to the post I’m vaguely talking about for my suggestion for a revised synopsis for that episode if you’re interested in how I would’ve shortened it.

Anyway, enough complaining about something that I cannot change! It’s time to discuss With You and the Rain, which has yet to disappoint me with the length of its synopses!

…staying on the topic of synopses, this synopsis is the first time that the episode synopses of this series refer to the dog or tanuki or whatever it is as “You”. From research that I have done, this appears to be the closest we’re ever going to get for a name for this little guy…which, to be honest, I kinda hate. I understand it likely comes from the title, which should’ve already suggested that its name was going to be You, but it just doesn’t feel fulfilling enough to me. Like, doesn’t it have any other name we can call it that feels like it actually fits?

This is why I stick with calling it “the critter” and the like. The name is just too hard!

Okay, now to actually talk about the episode, instead of just the synopsis. Overall, it was a very fun episode that was bound to happen eventually. I swear, there are very few series that I have seen that can get away without a festival episode. And last episode saw us heading to the beach, so, by technicality, we have our beach episode as well!

…alright, there’s the two big stereotypical anime episodes knocked out. Any others that I’m not thinking of? Or are the two that easily pop to my mind the only ones? Just want to make sure that there aren’t any other ones that With You and the Rain has the possibility to hit.

But the fact that the critter disappeared (I can say that, it said that in the episode synopsis), leading me to think that we’d be left on a cliffhanger that would take this down a more emotional drama path, only for it to not…well, I’m not complaining. Who’d honestly expect the chill series with a dog that looks like a tanuki (or is a tanuki…) to go down that path? Besides, when picking up this series, I had the feeling it was going to stay chill all the way through, which honestly, I needed.

But the fact that Fuji’s parents and Kii returned for this episode is so fun! Honestly hope these three become recurring characters like it appears they’re being set up to be. Honestly, it’s just a typical festival episode, so there’s not really much to say about it, but I don’t think that makes it bad at all. There’s probably going to be something fun next week. And I can’t wait until then!
