I hate not knowing what to write for my pre-review paragraph, because I feel like these help me to stand out even the tiniest bit more from other anibloggers, as it’s a time for me to talk about me. And like….I literally can’t think of anything interesting to write at the moment that isn’t connected to the episode!
But speaking of the episode, it was honestly quite a fun ride! It was nice to have an episode that wasn’t Monica needing to protect Felix from something or other (or just giving an introduction to Monica and her story), and it’s a very welcome change to what I’ve seen in the series so far. Yeah, I was expecting a big serious dragon fight at the beginning of the episode as it’s been set up that Monica acts as a sort of guardian, but you know what I didn’t expect?
Chess.
I know these guys have more English sounding names, but I was fully expecting these guys to play shogi. Maybe I’ve watched too many series that take place in Japan, forgetting the English past time known as chess. Or maybe I just expected the unexpected, so what should’ve been the expected ended up being the unexpected for me.
…did that make sense, or do I need to reword that to make it make sense? Eh, whatever. It makes sense to me, so that’s all that matters.
Monica’s definitely developed a bit, and it seems like she’s going to grow even a bit more out of her show over the course of the series, which I’m happy for! Even just having a shy main character is enough for me to love this show! Seriously, there’s like…three anime that I can list off the top of my head (including this one!) that I’ve seen that feature shy main characters slowly but surely coming out of their shell. And it’s gonna be fun to see how Monica comes out of her shell!
Um…there’s not really much else that I can think of to say. I know, disappointing, but when a lot of this episode was a lot more of a slice of life feel, I don’t think it’d be fair for me to judge the episode compared to the others all that well.
…but with how calm the majority of this episode was, it only makes me feel like a storm is coming, and fast.
