Are you a cat person? Or a dog person? Or maybe even a tanuki person? Regardless of what kind of person you are, there’s bound to be something in this episode that’ll appeal to you…though I suspect that the dog people and the tanuki people will be drawn to the same things, due to the fact that the whole joke with the critter is that it’s a tanuki pretending to be a dog. Just…whatever.
I’m gonna to take a break from discussing the joke of the series for like…the sixth time this anime season. I’m sorry, but I feel like that discussion is getting way too overdone in my writeups for this series. This will probably be the last time I even vaguely hint at the joke, as I really don’t want to wear it out.
This was still a fun episode, regardless. Seeing the interactions with the critter and Teru’s cat was so fun, and it was a good way to show how animals need time to get used to new people and animals instead of trying to force them into interaction. While the only characters we really see interact with each other in this kind of way is the critter and the cat, it’s still a nice way to help show people who don’t own animals how long it could take for animals to warm up to each other.
And as someone who doesn’t own any animals but who likes watching animal videos, it was nice to have this dynamic between animals to show how not all animals are the same and that you have to have patience when it comes to getting animals to interact.
The new characters introduced in this episode was fun, though I suspect that it’ll be quite a while till we see them again, if at all. Something that I’ve noticed so far is that it takes a bit for characters that aren’t major characters to reappear in the series. While I won’t be too stingy regarding this point, I just hope that these characters don’t get wasted, as I enjoyed Fuji’s brother and his wife.
And with the fact that the episode synopsis on Crunchyroll played up that Teru’s wife is pregnant, it made me feel like the fact that she’s pregnant will be brought up again in the future, likely as the child being born or something else happening. I doubt that fact would be brought up if it’s not going to be brought up again.
This is genuinely a fun series, and I enjoy tuning into it every week. I hope Episode 7 keeps my expectations high.
