Clevatess Episode 8 – “Current of Insects”

And we’re back in warning territory! Welcome back ladies, gentlemen, and chefs! …Sorry, I don’t know any other term to refer to non-binary individuals in a more formal context. So even if you’re the worst cook to walk the earth, you’re being referred to as a chef here because I don’t know what other term to use. While it may not be one of my typical warnings that I use, it still counts! And yes, I’m just reusing the content warning template for the spoiler warning thing, because…it just works. Don’t question it any further than that.

But I believe that this was an excellent episode. Starting at the beginning, what I can only describe as a heart-to-heart between the head of the guard of this town and Alicia, and it was so sweet. While it was (unfortunately) cut short by the attack of a bug monster thing, the fact that this conversation caused a shift in opinion in the people of the town regarding Alicia was genuinely so nice to see. Fuck all of the bugs, though, they still made me feel antsy, and I don’t like the fact that they made me feel antsy. Like I’ve brought up before, I can typically handle bugs, but Clevatess has made me feel so fucking off about them for one reason or another.

Overall, I feel like this was a great episode…and then we get to the end of it. We see Clevatess in his human form go to where Alicia, Nelluru, and Luna are, but…wait.

I didn’t cover it last week, but since my spoiler warning covers this, I can give you it now. At the end of the last episode, Drel, who’s our big bad for this series, uses a magic spell to seal Clevatess within a big red circle that, if I remember correctly, is made out of blood. Okay, so that would temporarily have Clevatess out of the picture with the exception of the dark ichor flowing in Alicia’s veins, right? …right?

Well apparently not, because we still see Clevatess, like I noted above, with the most acknowledgement of the battle from earlier being information relating to Drel, being that he has a lord of dark beasts on his side. So, either I misunderstood something and Klen and Clevatess are two separate beings that both have the Clevatess mind, or that’s something that’ll end up getting addressed in the next episode. And god, I hope they explain this. I really don’t want to make any “Clevatess ex machina” jokes regarding Clevatess. I don’t even know if you guys would find those funny or not.

However, I have high hopes for the next episode of Clevatess just based off of the preview. And you know what? I sure hope that the next episode doesn’t have those hopes take a nosedive into the trash.
