Mom (you know who you are), if you’re reading this post before watching the episode yourself since we didn’t watch the episode together, stop. Watch the episode. Even make sure your writeup for it is fully finished before reading my post. I want you to have fully processed everything about this episode before engaging with my post.
This feels like the time I told my mom last season not to read my post about the at-the-time latest Kill Blue episode until she watched it herself. Both times were during the first month of the anime season. At least we actually got to watch two episodes together before I had to pull the strat this time. Better actually get into it now.
We start this episode with a flashback to ten years ago, revealing that Jeff had a fiancee, and that he was in the Knights alongside his fiancee’s brother. However, at a point where she was suffering, he failed to recognize it in time, and couldn’t become someone to be depended upon.
I’m sorry, I know this is supposed to be a serious moment, but hey, episode title drop! That’s cool! That’s really, really cool! It’s always cool when episode titles are able to get integrated into the episode they’re titling!
…okay, on second thought, that doesn’t feel like relevant episode talk. It’s literally just the title.
Anyway, we get to see Victoria get into a dress for the event, getting into a nice dress. Jeff comes to pick her up, stating that he’d be the victim of jealous stares that night, and the two head to the event. People are surprised because this is the first time in ten years that Jeff came with a lady, which makes sense considering the flashback. We also get to see Jeff using Victoria as lady deterrent here. A lady comes up to talk to Jeff, and after a scene where Victoria gets introduced to this lady, Jeff sniffs Victoria’s hair.
10/10, no notes. Please do this more, Jeff.
This action serves as the necessary lady deterrent, though, so it’s nice to see that bringing Victoria along worked! Yay! 😀
Then comes the dancing. First between another couple, and then we see Victoria and Jeff do it together too! Yay! Absolutely love these two, I’m happy for them. Victoria also tells Jeff after dancing that she’s “been asked to play a similar role before”.
That is literally the most spy way you could’ve phrased that. She could’ve just said something like “this isn’t my first time dancing”. Am I crazy? Couldn’t she have just done that? Or is there narrative reasoning as to why she couldn’t have phrased this literally any other way?! Like…huh?!
Okay, enough discussing that point. Remember the couple that we saw dancing earlier? That’s the prince. Waow. (misspelling on purpose.)
However, during the event, Victoria notices a server that doesn’t seem to be doing their job. Victoria feels like there’s something off with them, and while Jeff heads out, Victoria jumps off of the balcony and waits around. While it appears that Jeff let the culprit get away, Victoria happens to be in just the right location to be able to incapacitate the culprit. While she gets away, Jeff does end up bringing him inside. Victoria and Jeff leave separately, though Victoria doesn’t go straight home.
Instead, she gets a drink at a bar. Just a single drink. She’s got a child at home, she can’t get too drunk.
The reasoning that Jeff couldn’t go with her, though, was because he had to help with official duties because of the fact that the culprit was there. We love a working man. The first guard to arrive at the scene, however, had good enough night vision to be able to see Victoria getting away from the scene. They come to the conclusion that she was getting out of there because she was scared…ah, yes, totally. However, that conversation does get to its intended purpose, even if it eventually got back onto the topic of the woman (aka Victoria).
Though Victoria does go back home, and the prince asks to be able to interact with Victoria later. Oh boy…
While Jeff’s on his way home, we get to pull out a flashback that adds context to the first flashback we got, showing Jeff and Kaiser (the brother of Jeff’s fiancee) in a battle alongside the prince, and the aftermath of it. It’s…a lot. Just…(in the tune of Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) by Katy Perry)don’t raid at night.
And Jeff’s like “damn…that was a long day”. After one more flashback to earlier that day, Jeff notices how he and Victoria were basically opposite.
But wait, the episode’s not done yet! A character has requested to contact an agent in Randall to get information on Victoria Sellars.
Hoooly shit. That ending. It was certainly an ending. But we’ve got someone looking into Victoria. That would have to be something that gets focus in an upcoming episode. Please, series, don’t let me down. This better be a plot thread they pull on. If not, I’ll be disappointed.
