First of all, before I even start this post properly, I want to give a bit of a “screw you” to the person who wrote the metadata for this episode’s title. Village of Origin makes a lot more sense for the episode title than “Town of Beginnings”. I’m pulling what I did with my Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary writeups and trusting the subtitlers over the metadata, as the subtitlers usually feel like they have the more accurate title. But let me know chat, between “The Hero Legend and the Village of Origin” and “The Hero Legend and the Town of Beginnings”, which one do you think makes more sense for an episode of Clevatess?
Secondly, holy fucking shit, this episode does so much for the lore, I am so thankful for the existence of it. I know some of this may have already been covered in the first season of the anime (it’s been a while since I watched the first season, so don’t quote me on whether or not that’s the case), but it’s a good way to get the lore out!
Third of all, wow, if I had a nickel for every episode 3 I watched this anime season where we started with a flashback to about 1,000 years ago, where Clevatess waits for foes, only for an angel looking thing to appear and be like “there’s no more.” The being that talks to Clevatess introduces itself as Zavthier of Phantasms. Put a pin in that. We’ll come back to it later.
Back at the school, Clevatess decides to go back to the dorms with the horned girl and Eddy. Yeah, I remember his name, it was said in the episode, with Clevatess only really wanting to talk to Alicia about the mission if she’s figured out what’s happening. Alicia herself feels like she can only really talk to Clevatess if they’re going to or from school, as he can choose not to respond to her if she reaches out via the dark ichor.
However, Alicia, there’s a flaw in your logic. He can still choose to ignore to you if you talk to him face to face. The only difference, as far as I can tell, is whether or not others can hear it. Did you think about that?
However, she does get to work, realizing that the students are acting as if this isn’t a weird thing. They refuse to answer her questions when she asks, however, and before she can ask the top three students, the asshole twins come up behind her and request to want to talk to her.
They start by talking about Nathan (the guy I mistakenly got attached to last episode 💔) and how starting today, he’s no longer a student at the school, before striking up an alliance with her. Great. That means they’re actually important to the story, which means I have to talk about them as the series goes on. Blech. =_=
…the blech was because of the summer heat where I live, I swear.
We then see a conversation between a princess and the old guy from last episode. We get more information about the old guy later on in this episode, I promise. Basically, it sums up to “if Toah says we must, then we shall” regarding magic. But it seems that Toah may just be the name of the book and God is still a separate thing? Look, I’m still trying to figure things out. Please forgive me if I get things wrong during my writeups, especially if they’re things that are supposed to be shrouded in mystery at the moment. I’m literally working with whatever I’ve got.
Anyway, it seems Alicia did more asking off screen, to no avail. She chills on some ancient stones, which are there because this academy was built on a ruin site. Huh. Hashtag holy land or something. She considers asking a teacher, and while at first she considers a teacher here from Eslinn, she turns away from that path. But she does come up with another option…the pink haired lady who debuted in Season 1!
Alicia tackled into her claiming to need help because she’s being “bullied” to get a private area to talk. Hell, the only reason that Alicia even trusts her is because she knows that Alicia is in disguise, but hasn’t outed it yet. They discuss what the three kingdoms are doing, but they create their own plan so that if they find it first, they can have a bit of control over the situation.
We also get a scene in Eslinn with its leader, and the most important part about this scene is that we find out there’s a Pope serving as the dean of the school, mister Elro Romain. He’s the guy who caused what happened to Nathan last episode, thus proving that the true enemy of this season isn’t another nation, but instead religion.
We also get a scene with the members of the team that were left in Hiden, seeing that Luna is able to use levitation magic and read now! Wow! Also interesting is that while Luna never went through the true naming ceremony, his name is in its proper space on the chair. So, is it suggesting that a name granted by a dark beast considered as equal to a true name?
We also have it established that pink haired lady doesn’t remember what happened before or after that thing, but that it’s similar to the hero stuff. Speaking of that, some girl has been following Clevatess, the horned girl, and Eddy, so Clevatess used his powers to give her shadows of them to follow while the other two watch with him from behind a barrier.
The horned girl, Sarasa, is the Shamaness Godspeaker, which basically means she can manifest Zavthier, the god of the Orggites, with Sarasa being one as well.
…damn, I should figure out another way to refer to her starting next episode I need to bring her up, as I don’t really like writing “Sarasa”, as it feels like too much like a misspelling of my own name for comfort. Whatever, I’ll deal with it for now.
Anyway, Zavthier is one of the lord of dark beasts, and can even possess Sarasa and speak through her! During the time she’s being possessed, I’ll refer to Sarasa as Zavthier just to cut down on the amount of time that I have to type that.
As it turns out, Eddy is also being used to control a dark beast, specifically a dark beast named Rathwell! Rathwell did…something to cause Eddy to bleed. I don’t know if it’s a dark ichor esque situation like what Alicia’s experiencing or something different, but Rathwell’s here!
And the salamander? A lord of dark beasts named Vordin is doing stuff here! I saw Vordin’s look and was like “that has to be the salamander from episode 2″. So, uh, wow! Some things are certainly opening up!
We do get a summary of the legend, with us going back to the pink haired lady and Alicia, and despite magic not being in the legend, Alicia has come to the conclusion that each land has a book that adds more information to the legend. With that, Alicia also thinks she’s figured out the secret room, and runs off.
She also finds the greenhouse, where she sees the number three student working. Entering it, she sees a snail, though while looking at it and recognizing her appearance being mirrored in it, she gets taken to another world and put under the jar. Happy end of the episode!
Wow. Just…wow.
Do you understand why I said holy fucking shit now? This was the Clevatess episode ever. Genuinely can’t wait to see the next one. My expectations are high now. Please series, don’t let me down. I’m loving the ride, and I don’t wanna fall into a spike trap.
