What is up with me and being unable to think up of lead-ins for posts for episodes of this series? I genuinely hope that it’s not a sign of my brain starting to lose interest in this series, but I genuinely want to try and finish this series, as kitties! Cats! I love felines! :]
This episode is a continuation of the story started in Episode 5. And before people act like nerds in the comments, yes, I know this whole storyline technically started all the way back in Episode 3 because of which group of cats this specific cat came from, but I think that highlighting when Shirotae’s solo perspective really started.
This episode follows Shirotae and Gallie as they go through an average day in their life. This is comprised of Shirotae providing internal dialogue for their part, while also giving us some scenes of Gallie at work. The main goal of the episode is for Shirotae to get Galllie interested in learning magic. Shirotae starts by teaching Gallie the basics, so that she can start to learn more magic than just the explosion spell she showed off in her introductory episode.
She is good at magic once she gets a hold on the basics, even if she’s still only using fire spells. Though, I feel like based on information stated in this episode, she’s very likely being implied to be neurodivergent to some degree. While she’s good at something once she gets the basics down, she doesn’t really try and put all that much effort into what she’s doing unless she’s interested in it.
This is something that, if I’m going to be honest, I relate to. You can get me to do the basics, and I can be good at stuff once I get those basics down. But actually getting me past the basics? Unless it’s something I’m genuinely interested in, I’m not really going to try and put in the effort to get better. Honestly, I really like this part of Gallie’s character. With there only being 3 episodes left for this season (if it does get a season 2), at least according to MAL, however, I don’t know if there’s going to be enough episodes to be able to get more Gallie development. And that’s honestly my fear for this series: these plots get opened up, but they fail to get wrapped up by the end of the season. And since there’s no guarantee that we’ll be getting a season 2, I really don’t want to get myself all hyped up for more stuff with Gallie, only to find out “erm, actually, we’re not going to have a season 2, enjoy these episodes”.
While it may be disappointing for those plotlines to potentially not be resolved, honestly, just as long as the anime series doesn’t end with a cliffhanger (gives a death glare to Quality Assurance in Another World), I think I’m still going to enjoy this series. But there is a goal that Shirotae has by the end of the episode: convince Gallie to go to school! Based on the title of the next episode (even if I don’t include it here), I don’t think that this plotline will be continued in the next episode, meaning, based on my analysis, that there are two more episodes where we could get more development on this plotline. Hopefully we get it, because I’m genuinely attached to Gallie now. 🥺
