Look, I know that you probably didn’t expect a delay on this post, but since one of my simulcast had issues (the earliest of my simulcasts and the only one of those that I don’t do standard simulcast writeups for), I decided to do a delay just to give Crunchyroll time to fix it and give them some grace time in case my other simulcasts were having that issue. As it turns out, not only did both of my other simulcasts (this one and Meitantei Precure) not have that issue, my third simulcast was fixed by the end of the day. Since I had something going on IRL that day that would’ve made trying to squeeze in watching my two writeup simulcasts and making those writeups alongside catching up with my other simlcasts, I decided to just do the delay anyway.
I think this is actually the first time that I had to delay a post of this series, if we exclude me combining Episodes 1 and 2 into one post. Okay, I’ll finally start talking about the episode.
We start this episode with, you guessed it, a recap on the past of the Cat Dragon! Did you somehow manage to forget it between the last time it was brought up and now? Well don’t worry, this episode has you covered! I guess you could say that this is a justified decision because people may want to show this episode to their mom on Mother’s Day and not have to show them the other episodes, but I feel like the series is episodic enough already to the point that this wouldn’t have been necessary. That’s just a personal gripe of mine, but who knows, maybe there are some people out there that needed this recap.
The events of this episode, however, follow the Cat Dragon and his Greater Demon brother seeing each other in the Cat Dragon’s forest, as well as learning about and celebrating Mother’s Day. Maybe when whatever chapter(s) this is in the source material came out it was close to or on Mother’s Day, which would make the timing make much more sense. This is also another episode that keeps up the character trait of the Cat Dragon disliking humans.
…so when do we get to see him start “slowly warming up to humans” since this episode still seems to have him be absolutely grumpy at humans? And don’t say episode 1, we all know that was just for diplomatic reasons and not because he truly had a change of heart.
Normally I go into detail about the events of the episode, but I’m just not doing it this time. I feel like my summary provides enough information for me to make this post.
While it was a fun episode, it definitely felt like it only exists to celebrate a holiday. It would’ve been fine if it was actually released around that time, but since I’m watching it in the Summer 2026 anime season, it just feels like a mistimed special.
Even without watching it with my actual mother, however, I’d say that this is a solid episode to show to your mother on Mother’s Day if she’s the kind of person to enjoy watching more lighthearted shows like this. Or even if you just need something more lighthearted to watch after some stressful events. :]
Next episode, though, isn’t one that I think I can say the same thing about.
