Yeah, for all of the episodes in this Cure Eclair arc, unless Toei decides to break trend and give us the same episode preview as the Japanese socials get but with English subtitles, literally the only reason I’ll be able to know the names of the episodes is by how they’re subtitled on Crunchyroll when they come out unless Crunchyroll actually gets data in for the episode in on time so that I’m not looking at Episode X titles. I tried waiting for Toei to post the episode preview on Monday, but they literally posted the exact same thing that was at the end of Episode 20, so I only have to assume that’s what they’re going to do for all of the episodes in this little Cure Eclair arc.
Cure Eclair Suspect That Gets Focus In This Episode: Eriza
Cure Eclair Hint(s) From This Episode (SPOILERS!)
My Stance On This Suspect Being Cure Eclair Prior To Watching The Episode: While one of the more likely options, I believed she wasn’t it due to too much of her appearance needing to change to make her look like Cure Eclair.
Do I Think My Stance Is Still Justifiable After The Episode? (SPOILERS!)
Disclaimer: Spoilers in the collapsible sections may get repeated unmarked later in this writeup. If you don’t want to take the risk of getting spoiled for Meitantei Precure, please stop reading this writeup here.
So, the Phantom Thieves’ Guild knows that Cure Eclair exists now because of a prophecy that Usonoir gets. Luluka is like “No…that can’t be…”, and Usonoir’s then like “well, she ain’t back now, so you folks just focus on getting the Makoto Jewels.”, to which we get a resounding “lie lie, sir!”
Meanwhile, Anna, Mikuru, and Jett are all spending time at the CUREtto Detective Agency when Eriza comes in basically saying that she wants to become a detective. Ah yes, because writing mystery fiction and solving mysteries are basically the same thing. Must be why a certain character from a certain show that I somehow connect everything back to opted to continuously help the police with cases despite never taking the label of detective, instead of the fact that they’re just a genius.
*ahem*
Anyway, Eriza’s editor comes in after her, but still decides to let her entertain the idea of becoming a detective. Since it requires a test of solving a case, everyone decides to wait for a case…only for no case to come. To kill time, Anna and Mikuru decide to show Eriza and her editor around the CUREtto Detective Agency. Luluka and Mashutan also there to spy on what’s happening in the agency, and this is where we learn that room was once Luluka’s.
During the time here after a bit I don’t explain, however, the item with the Makoto Jewel gets stolen and so Anna, Mikuru, and Eriza have to go out and look for it, though the initial disguise that the thief used is now gone, replaced with three suspects in the lovey dovey couple and a businessman.
I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THIS EPISODE’S MYSTERY (SPOILERS!)
After the culprit unmasks themself, we find out it’s none other than (and pardon my language) fucking Agesiene behind it! Boo! Honestly she’s the first out of all the members of the Phantom Thieves’ Guild to do whatever it is they’re going to do to mark that a villain is out of the running.
We get the standard setup for getting the Hanninda into existence, with Eriza even noticing that Anna and Mikuru disappeared. Unless they pull this with every Cure Eclair suspect in these episodes, I’m going to use this as evidence for or against any specific suspect being Cure Eclair. In Eriza’s case, for me, it seems to suggest she is not Cure Eclair. Again, if this exact same thing gets pulled with all of the suspects, then I’ll stop counting it, but until then, I feel like this can be solid evidence to see whether or not a suspect is Cure Eclair.
We also get Cure Arcana Shadow! Nice to see her again. During this battle, Answer (Anna) and Mystique (Mikuru) find out that Cure Eclair exists, as well as her name being Cure Eclair. Aside from this, however, the fight is the standard fare. After the battle, Mashutan makes the comments that the curtains in Anna’s room were better when Luluka was the resident.
After the case, Eriza realizes that she technically passed the test as she was the one to make the move that unmasked Agesiene, but since Eriza got inspired for another story, she decides she’s going to be an author who sleuths on the side! Just like a certain character from a certain series that I somehow connect back to everything.
During the night, Anna and Mikuru make the connection that Cure Eclair had to have previously worked here, and that Mikuru’s room was previously Cure Eclair’s room.
And that’s the end of the first episode of the Cure Eclair arc! Next week is Shiruku’s episode, and it’s the one I’m most excited for (aside from Episode 25)!
Reminder of my stance on Shiruku as Cure Eclair (DISCUSSION OF MY THEORY, GO READ MY WRITEUP FOR EPISODE 20 AND GO TO THE CURE ECLAIR THEORY PART IF YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT IS)
Genuinely hope that Toei doesn’t fuck these next episodes up.
