This is the episode of all time. Good enough for me to take back part of what I said in my post about the previous episode of this series. Trust me, when you read this, you’ll understand exactly why I’m saying that when you read further into the post. All I will say before I begin covering the episode proper is that a statement that I made in my post about the previous episode gets rendered to be obsolete because of what happened in this episode.
Victoria prepares Nonna to have to spend her evenings at least somewhat alone. She even offers to let Nonna stay with Miss Susan, but Nonna’s like “no, I wanna have dinner with you! :(“, so that’s enough to trust Victoria to leave Nonna on her own when she has errands to run during the evening. And oh boy, she has errands.
Under the pseudonym of Kate, Victoria gets a horse and heads out to ask a man for assistance with something. The amount she presents as payment is enough for him to do what she needs him to do. She also stops by the castle, where she manages to be able to visit the culprit of the attempted attack at the ball.
Yeah, before I continue, quick back track. Back when this dance party/ball was introduced, it was referred to as a dance party. Starting in this episode, however, it’s being referred to as a ball in the subtitles instead? Consistency just…isn’t here, but whatever. She uses this first visit to get a read of when the patrols are.
Alongside keeping up her daily life, Victoria (still acting under the name Kate) spends time working to break out the culprit of the attack. She does manage to do so, and even has a solid escape plan for him! There’s also a visit that’s made to the culprit’s little sister, and honestly, this kills the whole “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” thing I said last episode. It’s more “damned if you don’t, damned if you do unless someone in your community just so happens to be an ex-spy that feels like your imprisonment was unjustified”.
However, it is a successful breakout, so yay, all’s well that ends well on that front.
The main developments in Victoria’s day to day life are her, Nonna, and Clark doing a play to help practice their language skills, with that play even getting a little performance with people they know as the audience! That’s so sweet! :]
There’s also a dinner with Jeff that occurs during this episode, which aww, I love seeing the dynamic between them grow! Although, on their way back, there was someone who looked at the trio and called out an unfamiliar name.
As it turns out, that person is someone who knew Victoria under a different name back during her spy days, and that information got to her organization. Uh oh…
Genuinely terrified to see what happens next. With how the story is ramping up, it appears that the episodes that were announced to be in just the three volumes is the full count, but I’m not going to say whether it is the case or not until we get closer to the end of this cour.
