The episode begins with Umika rewatching her speech, with her younger sister walking in and noticing. The scene then changes to Umika, Yu, and Haruno at a station, having rockets in tow. They’re waiting for someone else, and that someone else turns out to be Kei, the character that up until now I’ve only referred to as “the white-haired girl”. While her name was revealed before this episode, it wasn’t a detail that stuck with me until this episode. However, the detail not sticking close to my mind is probably just a me thing.
Kei takes the three to the room her club uses for meetings and overhears her two clubmates arguing. While still being on the outside, Kei texts her clubmates that she’s outside the door, and that she heard their argument. When the two clubmates realize this, they scramble to prepare the clubroom. These clubmates then introduce themselves, thus properly introducing the audience to Neon Teruya and Michiru Yugumo. Umika attempts to introduce herself to the two, but with Neon saying that they know and that they don’t have to be so formal, it suggests that Kei told her clubmates about Umika and her group.
After getting enamored with a collection of rockets in the clubroom (which are owned by Kei), Umika shows Kei a rocket she made, with Kei looking over the rocket and making little adjustments to it. It’s revealed that they have software intended to simulate launches, but after noticing that two of the club members are fighting over the desktop computer, Kei pulls out her laptop. Kei and Umika then look over the results from the simulation, with Umika noticing the difference between the engine types they used in the simulation. This difference was purely because of performance, with wind not being factored in yet.
After some time, the three main girls head back to their regular setting, with Umika visiting Matataki to provide a letter of challenge, declaring that if she refused, that would mean that Umika won. Matataki decides to take up the challenge. We then see the group at the beach, prepared for another face-off with Matataki. Both sides would be shooting model rockets with altimeters as payloads. When the rockets are launched, it is seen that Umika, Yu, and Haruno’s rocket went a noticeable amount higher than Matataki’s rocket…but that was only because Matataki’s rocket had a weaker engine. A good part of the remainder of the episode shows how Matataki has changed since her introductory episode, by looking into her thoughts at some points while Umika, Yu, and Haruno talk to her.
After the credits, there is a little short that continues with the girls heading back home…and Umika falls, with her saying that a wave of relief took all the strength out of her body. Haruno offers to call an ambulance, but Umika says that she’s afraid of them.
This was a super fun episode, and I will admit, the final scenes before the credits made me want to cry. Though I find it interesting that the name of next week’s episode shares the same name with the series. The title seems to suggest that it could be a more Yu focused episode, or at least give Yu a bit more development, but that won’t be known until the episode airs next week.
Speaking of next week, my review for next week’s episode of Stardust Telepath will be a day later than usual. Since next Monday is Christmas, I’ll be spending time with my family.
