Kill Blue Episode 4 – “The Pacifier Duel”

A little status update from the situation regarding my site’s name being used in the metadata descriptions for various domains that are not owned by me: between the release of the post where I pointed it out and the time I am writing this post, all of the URLs that I found were doing this have been de-indexed from Google. While it’s currently safe to use the exact match search operator (“putting the phrase in quotes like this!”) for my site name, I’d recommend bookmarking my homepage to allow you quick access to my site if you need it. I also took the time to make it easier to tell which item in the header you’re hovering over, and I plan on making more updates to the site over the rest of the year to get it closer to my standards. Heck, there’s even another update you guys will first see at the end of this post! Anyway, time for me to get into the episode.

This episode begins with the fallout of Noren announcing that Ogami is her boyfriend, which ultimately drags down the Home Ec club. Due to the fact that the two are lovers spreading like wildfire at the school, Ogami is also getting bullied by boys who try to get him to buy bread for them or stay away from Noren, and Ogami picks the third option of jumping off of the building from the third floor to get away. He survives without needing to go to the hospital (because we all knew he would), and things seem to be going well.

The whole “Ogami and Noren dating” thing is supposed to be just pretend, and while Noren initially tries to break off the act, but when one of the boys that was bullying Ogami tries to take advantage of this to get with Noren (and seemingly not being able to take no for an answer), Ogami steps in and is like “back off, that’s my girl you’re talking to”, keeping the act up.

And because of all of that, Ogami gets a pen that means that Noren’s family recognizes him as Noren’s fiance. But wait, there’s more. On one side, there’s some people known as the Unicorns, who basically seem like the perfect partner one would want from how they’re described (likely why they’re called that) who all want to become Noren’s fiance. On the other, rival organizations would likely be sending in infiltrators to the middle school to try and get Noren’s hand in marriage.

And in this episode, we meet the first of those infiltrators from a rival organization: Shin Kohazame. His gimmick/sthick/whatever is that when he doesn’t have a pacifier nearby, he becomes a nervous wreck. Literally, this guy had a self introduction that was worse than Ogami’s. I didn’t even know that was possible.

He tries asking Noren to go out with him on his literal first day here, and Noren’s like “haha no.“, which is where Shin pivots to challenging Ogami to a duel. That is where the episode title comes into play. The duel occurs, and while Ogami does win, the entire process of the duel is so insane that I think you guys would have more fun if you went into it blind.

Also, Shin joins the Home Ec club. Great. I genuinely hope we get to see more activities in the Home Ec club as the series proceeds forward. But seriously, this episode was fun in all of the best ways possible. Made me feel like I watching something based on Rumiko Takahashi’s work, and I genuinely hope more episodes feel like this. It’s a nice way to have the series land, and I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here!
