The last thing I had seen in terms of anime before writing this review was a movie that had moments that made me fear for the life of the main character despite the fact that I knew the main character would survive due to there being more content after that movie. Point is, I wanted something nice and chill after that.
And I’m happy to say that Ruri Rocks delivered exactly what I needed after…that. I don’t want to go into much more detail about it, because this is about the episode, not the movie!
Still no red haired girl joining the crew, so that’ll most likely be next week. Please, I want to see her join and have the group of two high schoolers and two graduate students work together like we see the four in the key image I use. If she somehow doesn’t join, I’m not gonna be a happy camper.
However, despite that one gripe I have with the show so far, this is still a super fun show, and this episode just proves it! It’s on the chill side but with a good way to form conflict (difficulty finding specific rocks because rocks are complex), and the interactions between the characters are still as fun as ever!
This episode still keeps up the edutainment aspect of the show quite well, and still showing how mineralogy is something that looks easy but is actually quite hard once you learn more about the specifics of how it works.
It’s still keeping up the “cute girls doing cute things” vibe, and it doesn’t feel like it will stray from that course. And seeing Ruri be so interested in this had made me consider looking more into it, as well! After all, if she’s so enthusiastic about it, it’s gotta be interesting IRL, right?
And, to be honest, I feel like this is one of my favorite episodes so far. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can get too heavy into the reason without spoiling the episode, as I think the ending of this episode is best when you go into it without knowledge of how it ends. Just know that there’s something in my life that is connected in some form to the ending that’s rather nostalgic for me.
Maybe it’s just me wanting to go back to the good old days…or maybe my mind just subconsciously clings on to anything that reminds me of my past. Who knows?
Honestly, I just want to see if the red haired girl does actually join the crew, or if the key art I’m using is lying to me. But as of right now, I have absolutely no qualms with recommending this series to people.
