The episode begins with Honami taking Umika’s temperature a day after the events of the previous episode. She does appear to be getting better, with a doorbell being heard. Honami heads to the door under the impression that it’s a delivery, only to see Yu, Haruno, and Matataki at the door. Honami closes the door and says that she doesn’t know them, but after they clear up that they’re here to visit Umika, Honami lets them in.
They head to Umika’s room, with Yu automatically running to comfort Umika. Yu then proceeds to offer Umika gelatin food. However, since it seems that there could be some fighting that broke out, Honami decides to ask Umika if she wants some congee, with Honami taking Umika’s friends to help her with making it. During this process, however, Honami ends up falling asleep while standing up. While Honami was initially laying on Yu, Matataki decided to move her.
We then get to see a dream that Umika is having, which ends up turning into a nightmare as it’s a scenario that would make it seem like Umika and Yu aren’t friends anymore. Umika wakes up, and after noticing Yu, she ends up asking her something. Whatever Umika said ends up causing Yu to leave the room with a bit more red to her face. As it turns out, what Umika asked was for Yu to only use her foreheadpathy on Umika.
Later, Honami wakes up and heads to Umika’s room, seeing that Umika and her friends all appear to be sleeping in there. On what appears to be the next day, we see that Umika has made a full recovery, and that Matataki began going back to school again. The group then discuss their goals, with Umika revealing that she wants to get better at her communication skills. And on a later day at school, Umika has a chance to improve her communication skills by talking to one of her classmates about rockets and getting them to see how cool they could be. When the group meets, Umika talks about the experience, and we find out that Umika got the other girl’s number. During the meeting, Umika got a message from the other girl that seems to suggest she changed her view on rockets.
Afterwards, as the group (minus Yu) are on the way back to their homes, Umika decides to head up to the lighthouse and talk to Yu. Yu attempts to initiate foreheadpathy with Umika, but what Umika said earlier still had her holding back. Umika then touches her head to Yu’s, and her feelings go through that way. When they disconnect and laugh, the lighthouse activates and does a sweep through, showing what the other characters are doing at that moment. After it does its sweep through, Umika and Yu touch foreheads before the camera pans up and reveals the name of the episode and a message in the alien language.
I feel this was a really good way to wrap up this show. It was a nice little show to tune into every week, and while the tone change from being light and comedic to having more dramatic moments may have been a bit weird at first, I think it works, as it seems this type of tone makes the story stronger. The title drop listed this as the “final episode”, which could just mean the final episode of the season, though it could also be the final episode of the series. While I am hoping for a season 2 (especially since it appears that the source manga is still ongoing in Japan), I am satisfied with how this episode ended.
