This episode begins where the previous episode left off, with the emperor and Elise discussing the wager, with Elise stating that she wasn’t willing to give up on that wager yet, despite the fact that it was evident to those who looked that Elise could keep up with the prince. We then head back to Elise’s room, where she’s studying for the physician’s exam. Chris comes in and tells Elise that she needs to head to bed because the birthday celebrations continue the next day, and Chris is still insistent on it when Elise points out that she has to study. When Chris leaves, Elise laments that she wasn’t able to get much done.
We then are at the next day of the birthday celebrations, where people are celebrating Elise on the engagement, as with how the announcement last episode was worded, that would be the natural assumption for anyone who didn’t know the exact nature of what was going on to make. She tries to figure out if Juliane is present, but to no avail. Quite suddenly, the duchess begins choking, and when the Heimlich maneuver fails, Elise uses her modern medical knowledge and the closest equivalents she had for medical tools to get the food out and save the duchess’ life, which ends up landing her in trouble.
She is sent to the Hundreds House instead of a jail cell, and the emperor’s assistant had the idea of silently keeping Elise in there until the physician’s exam was over, which the king objected to, but the two do start an investigation regarding Elise’s medical treatment of the duchess. Later on, we see Elise and her older brothers in the Hundreds House, with Chris scolding her for doing something dangerous and Ren praising her for doing what is right. Despite being kept in the Hundreds House, however, Elise is continuing her studies for the physician’s exam. During the night, she had a nightmare where she was calling out to someone who went by Mil, seemingly unable to prevent his death. While she’s sleeping, the crown prince visits Elise and tucks her into bed. The next morning, we get properly introduced to Mikhail. Elise refers to him as Mil, before introducing herself.
It turns out that he’s in the Hundreds House because he stole a little bit of the drinks for the birthday celebration, but the two manage to make a close friendship. The two doctors (Graham and Viscount Ven) who were called for the investigation don’t object to Elise’s work, and so Elise can get released from the Hundreds House…with Graham and Ven asking to meet her. Back in the Hundreds House, Elise is studying with Mikhail coming in and asking her to take a break. Elise doesn’t budge until she hears about sweets that Mikhail has. She ends up finding a stopping point and has sweets and a toast with him. The next day, with Elise studying during the daytime, she gets told she has visitors. And when Graham and Ven see her, they appear to have made the connection that Elise IS Rose.
Well, it looks like the cat is out of the bag now. But this begs the question: Will finding out that Elise is Rose change how Graham and Ven treat her? Or will they still treat her exactly the same? Regardless of the answer that will likely be revealed in the next episode, I found this episode to be enjoyable. While I do have a gripe with the episode, I’m not going to go too heavily into detail with it because that one gripe did not hinder my experience with the episode. In fact, the cliffhanger ending makes me want to come back for the next episode. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint.
