Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp Episode 11 – “A Wish”

The episode begins with the ceremony to award Elise the Order of the Imperial Rose, at which she also gains the rank of knight. She then talks to some of the people who chose to attend, who still think that Elise and Linden are engaged. At a later point during the event, Elise is with the emperor, and she notices that he seems to be pale. She begins asking about his symptoms, but the emperor insists that he’s fine and that Elise shouldn’t worry because this isn’t a hospital setting, and tells her that someone wants to talk to her, revealing that person to be Juliane. The emperor then continues having his drink, with Linden providing another glass.

The emperor quickly downs this glass and asks for another, with Linden pointing out that the emperor shouldn’t drink so quickly. However, before the emperor can put the glass on the tray, he suddenly collapses to the ground while clutching his chest. Elise notices and runs up to him, checking for a pulse. Finding no pulse, she calls for Viscount Ven and has him help while she provides chest compressions to get the pulse started again. She manages to restart his pulse, and the situation is dire enough to require the emperor to need to go to the hospital. Of course, due to the situation, Linden gets sent to the Hundreds House.

The emperor safely gets transported to the hospital, and Elise provides instructions to an employee there regarding how to take care of him and when to contact her. We then see a meeting between Mikhail and the nobles regarding the incident, in which it is revealed that punishment can’t be handed down based on circumstantial evidence, but this doesn’t stop the nobles’ faction from creating an extra edition of the newspaper that claims that Linden was the one who poisoned the emperor. And while one of the people in the meeting seemed suspicious, he insisted that he had nothing to do with this.

Back at the hospital, Elise and Graham are checking on the emperor’s condition, which appears to be getting better, but he’s not back to his best health yet. Elise heads out, during which she witnesses the passing out of the extra edition that pins the blame on Linden. Elise decides to head to the Hundreds House to visit Linden, where Elise insists that the emperor will get better. As she’s leaving, she gets told that the emperor fell into a severe shock, with the promise of a carriage being called for her. Unfortunately, two members of the noble faction who can use swords insist on preventing her from being able to get back to the emperor, and Elise has to try and escape…with the episode ending with one of these people finding Elise and swinging their sword towards her.

Yes, I’m being serious. We ended this episode on a cliffhanger. Well, that’s 100% having me come back next week, even if I wasn’t already this far deep in the series. This was a nice episode, though I’m still upset we haven’t seen Elise take the physician’s exam yet. And with the pacing I’ve witnessed in this series so far, I find it highly unlikely that we’ll get to the physician’s exam next week. If this show gets a season 2, that’s likely where it will begin…that is assuming the physician’s exam occurs in the manhwa. I’ve never read it, so I don’t know what events do and don’t occur. Either way, this episode was solid for the story that it was trying to tell, and I can’t wait for next week.
