Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 6 – “Lightning”

Okay, just to get something out of the way first, yes, I changed all instances of “Kaioshin” in my previous writeups to just “Shin.” At the time, I was confused about whether or not I was using the correct name, and I figured that, just to be safe, I should change it to be what I recall the English subtitles using sometimes. This change was in vain, as the original Japanese audio proved I was using the correct name, but…I’ve already made the change, so I might as well follow through until the end and use the name I changed for the remainder of my writeups for this show. This will just keep it simpler, in my opinion.

…I was going to write something else for the pre-review segment, but I’m a bit sleepy right now, so I’ll just get into the review now.

The episode begins by backtracking to the end of the previous episode, with the plane going down! Thankfully, it was due to too much stuff, and there was nothing wrong with the engine. So, to prevent that from happening again, the crew decides to unload and leave behind some of the stuff. For better or for worse, it appears that this is where a running gag of “Goku mispronouncing Glorio’s name” ends, as Glorio gets Goku to pronounce his name correctly (which he does end up doing)…and Goku reveals that he’s got to poo, and after getting some toilet paper, runs behind a plant and goes to take his number two.

Goku takes this bathroom break at the perfect time because while he’s doing the business, the Gendarmerie (the authority that Goku fought previously) finds Shin, Glorio, and Panzy and, after some interrogation, lets them off. However, they did ask if they saw Goku (though asking for appearance traits only) before leaving. Goku even comes back at the perfect time, too. While he can’t exactly do anything to hide himself, they decide to keep moving forward anyway…after learning how unhygienic Goku is.

Within this, we also get more lore about the Glinds and how they’re all technically canonically non-binary because they’re neither male nor female. And in this case, I’m just using non-binary as an umbrella term, as I’m not going to try and knock on exactly which micro label they would use. Also, they don’t technically have to eat because they are from plants!

Also, there are five different Glind trees. I’m not even going to question why. However, what Shin said seems to suggest that only Glinds from the same tree are blood-related, which means there are five different families. Which, okay, interesting lore. That’s fun and good.

After plenty of flying, the crew lands at a cave…and they forgot the camping supplies. However, they make do with what they’ve got and have a meal, discussing with Glorio what he’s doing. After the meal, they sleep, and Glorio converses with Dr. Arinsu using a communicator of some kind…and this means either Arinsu is a spy and is actually on Glorio’s side (somehow), or I am correct in being cautious about trusting Glorio. We’ll probably need more episodes to get this all figured out.

Of course, not all is peaceful in the night, because the cave they decide to stay in is also the home of a minotaur, who ends up waking them up because of his stench. He makes his intentions clear, but after Glorio and Goku argue about who should fight it (bringing back the “Goku mispronounces Glorio’s name” gag, though I suspect this’ll be the last time), the two end up fighting each other, leaving the minotaur as a spectator!

The two have a showdown, with Shin telling Goku to fight hard enough to have Glorio fight at his strongest. This does happen, causing us to discover that even in his chibi form, Goku can go Super Saiyan and that Glorio can use lightning magic. Glorio does concede, and the minotaur does not follow through on eating them.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Bulma finishes the ship, and so Kibito, Piccolo, and Vegeta get on it to head out…and the ship does work for a bit! But in the end it does end up falling to the ground again…uh-oh.

I enjoyed how this episode played out. I liked the lore that was set up, and the interactions between the characters was super fun. I hope the minotaur returns in the future, whether that be via a cameo or in a more major role. After all, it feels like there could be something going on there.

Also, I know I already stated it, but I feel extremely justified in being so wary about Glorio, with what we know so far. I have my eyes on you, Glorio, and I won’t let another blue character working with the main protagonist potentially mislead me again.
