This marks the first (BUT NOT THE LAST!) time that I’ll be watching Dragon Ball Daima on a screen that’s bigger than what I’m used to. Seriously, I think watching this episode on a TV screen instead of a laptop screen was some of the best timing I’ve ever had. As I talk about the episode, you may understand why I’m saying this.
Anyway, the episode begins with Goku facing off against the Tamagami, with a crowd (including Shin, Glorio, and Panzy) watching the battle occur. It’s a close battle, evidenced by Goku having to go Super Saiyan at one point in the battle to be able to more easily go up against it, since base form Goku is not strong enough to really overpower it — if anything, base form was only on equal terms with the Tamagami. One breaking of a hammer later, and the Tamagami concedes in the physical fight…but this isn’t the end of the encounter.
Because what’s more important than being physically strong? Being mentally strong, of course!
So, the Tamagami challenges Goku to one of those “keep your eyes on which one contains the item” games to win the Dragon Ball…and this was something not even Shin could keep up with! But Goku could keep up…and even called out that the Dragon Ball wasn’t under a cup, but instead, floating above someone…causing Goku to get the Ball! Wowie!
Anyway, after getting the ball, the group is on their way to Warp-sama to head to the Second Demon World! Also, at some point during the episode, Glorio communicates with Arinsu. I’m still not dropping my suspicion of you, Glorio.
Okay, that covers the main plot of the episode, now I’ll cover the non-Goku perspective sections. Trying something new with format of this review just because I can.
When it comes to Bulma, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Hybis, they were informed that Goku, Shin, Panzy, and Glorio had gotten the Dragon Ball and were heading to Warp-sama…which meant now they had to go there…after they spend a night at a hotel (which is talked about, but I don’t know if we’ll see on screen). While not all that interesting, it seems to suggest that the two groups will be meeting up soon…which they better, because we see them interacting in the opening and ending.
We also see Gomah and Shin’s brother (I’m too lazy to look up the name) looking back at the Buu fight…and finding out that Arinsu was there to pick up a bit of Majin Buu’s essence, and we also get to see Arinsu use this essence in an attempt to have a witch-person-thing create a Majin, with Arinsu even spitting into the thing. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next week (or possibly even later) to see if this comes to fruition.
To be honest, I expected this to get the fight wrapped up in one episode (since Daima is more focused on the comedic element instead of the fighting, to get back into the element of the OG Dragon Ball), but I was NOT expecting them to do a non-physical battle in this show. But you know what? This was a good surprise! The animation was still incredibly good, especially during the actual fight scene. To be honest, it’ll be interesting to see how the crew ends up needing to lie low (because you know damn well that rumors are going to begin spreading about what happened sooner or later), and how this will continue. I can’t wait to see how the other Tamagami fights work, because I have the feeling that after each one admits defeat in a physical battle, they have a different way to test the mind. Maybe one of them will tell riddles? I dunno. All I know is that I’ll be here at this time next week to discuss more!
